I was so excited about this thread when i saw the title. There's a dive bar in East ATL called Lenny's and every monday they have an open-mic improv called Kirkwood Baller's Club. It's free and open to anyone to bring in anything and just play it, I've been going every week for several months now. And they always play southern rap in between the acts, its awesome.

There's some laptop regulars, and a guy that gets up and freestyles the most hilarious stuff over dirty south rap instrumentals, and some jazz heads that bring in tubas and stand-up bass and saxophones. A few weeks ago I saw a band playing over a live tamoura drone.

One time I played omnichord with two soul sister singers and a guy who claimed to have played with Sun Ra (Mumford i think his name is?) on skins.
