recommend me a help-desk product

I have this goofy idea that we (the democrats in st l0uis) should adapt a help-desk ticket system to move requests for rides to the polls through the system. Requests will be taken at one or two phone banks but rides will be dispatched from multiple locations. I have webspace with apache, mysql, & php. This should be completely web-based since we don't have a pre-existing network going. I really don't have any idea how many tickets would be moving through the system on election day. I think I'd need about 50 users max though.

Is this a completely stupid idea?

Do you have any recommendations for such a system, preferably one with a free trial? (the 2004 presidential elections would be the ultimate user test)

You might be able to adapt xrms to your needs, search for it at freshmeat.net

You should be able to find something that works there, probably better than that. I use that to track purchasing at work.
