Yay goat's blood!

(I actually first read it as 'Stalinist.')

I don't know much about LaVey-an Satanism, but wouldn't it clash severely with the deference to authority required of military service?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Sunday, 24 October 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I would think you're correct. I would imagine he was just being awkward though (no problem with that, as far as the military is concerned) and his objections have no real ideological/religious basis.

For some reason this quote from Ann Widdecombe: “The Navy should not permit Satanist practices on board its ships" amuses me greatly.

Ann Widdecombe probably thinks he's going to start sacrificing cats, or something.

Apparently he's from Edinburgh, which means we probably used to go to the same pubs. I'm strangely proud.

"Following such tenets and working them out practically in your life seems to produce a selfish person not a member of a team," he said.

What satanic band should cover The Village People's "In the Navy"???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 24 October 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"I would like to think that if somebody applied to the Navy and said they were a Satanist today it would raise its eyebrows somewhat."
