s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna get some FANCY A WESNOTH going on!

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

This looks sweet! I'd be up for it.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ah man, another game? i got four new ones in the past 2 days...

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I just played the tutorial. It does seem like a cool game. I can tell I am going to be awful at it thought...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Sunday, 24 October 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

the music is kinda repetitive...

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 24 October 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the music off. At least it is inoffensive

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Sunday, 24 October 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

this is kinda fun actually

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 24 October 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

multiplayer can be really good too... playing co-op against 3 armies is a challenge

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Sunday, 24 October 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

ill practice and then we play

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 24 October 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

This game is great - it's a throwback to an earlier era, so you have to be able to enjoy a more "chess-like" thinking approach to gaming... one problem with it is that whichever unit wins a fight is determined randomly - I have several times saved a game and then kept loading it until the right outcome came out for my troops. Of course you can't do that in multiplayer.

DougD, Monday, 25 October 2004 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My advice is to break yourself of that habit. God, I love my Level 5 Ancient Lich... he can just wade through seas of enemies with no harm coming to him

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

this screenshot is very exciting. so many units!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh, that looks fun, must remember to download it at home...

NEW VERSION

LE CHUCK!™ (ex machina), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ive been playing this a bit, the last couple days. the siege of elf-something really fucks me. its impossible (im playing the medium difficulty level)

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I've been playing this a bit too - I don't have the concentration for computer games anymore. Used to be able to play for days straight, I must be getting old.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

has someone beat that level yet? and can tell me how?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:09 (twenty-one years ago)

my advice is to QUIT as soon as you beat one map otherwise you get burned out. multiplayer is a little less frustrating.

time of day advantages and resistance are key

LE CHUCK!™ (ex machina), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:10 (twenty-one years ago)

but i only start with 100 gold and that means i can recall 5 units, but the bad guys have dozens.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

you need to restart the campaign and get there with more gold

i think i beat that one but i haven't played through the first campaign in a few versions so i dont have my old savegames

LE CHUCK!™ (ex machina), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

oh.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
This is stupidly good.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 3 January 2005 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I jumped in at the last campaign, it's crunchy hardnice. I'm up to the prison escape mission, I hafta go back one though to be able to level halfway through it though.

I miss Jon's old name.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 3 January 2005 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i love the undead campaign

LSD, called the aristocrat (ex machina), Monday, 3 January 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck you for bringing this game to my attention. this is horrible. ive wasted so much time on this thing

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 3 January 2005 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

um, want to play multiplayer?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 3 January 2005 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone give a kind of layman's guide to this game, what one does, how one does it and why it appeals? It just seems too complicated to get into and that makes me feel dumb and sad.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 3 January 2005 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark: it's a fantasy wargame, where you move units around a hex-based world fighting battles and shit. They can go up levels, and be kept from mission to mission. If the idea of recalling yr level 2 ogre with unique individual traits and all the xp towards level 3 he won in the previous mission doesn't work for you, then the game won't, and you are a sane human being.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 3 January 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil, yeah! I'm downloading 0.8.8 RIGHT NOW LIVE.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

ANYONE FANCY 3 OR 4 WAY

LSD, called the aristocrat (ex machina), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i am on server as "esquivel"

LSD, called the aristocrat (ex machina), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I started the tutorial but then got bored/frustrated. I've never stuck with a turn-based strategy game (unless you count Settlers).

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
Okay, yeah, trying to get the 'heroic' victory option on the evacuation mission in the 'rise of wesnoth' campaign is totally among the hardest things in a videogame ever, that I know. SO SO fun though!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(And only on the middle level! 'Iron man' saves though obv.)

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean "Iron Maulers" right? Yea, those are great units, but they need some protection sometimes.

Reviewer: Sir Potomus (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews (ex machina), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Nono! I like Iron Maulers but you don't get heavy inventry on the Haldric missions... I just mean no saving except at the start of missions, just playing properly really. You should do that campaign Jon, seriously, it's awesome.

I think assassins are my favourite units? They are so crap as rogues and whatever rogues level to, then KILLER POISON AWESOMENESS.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 31 January 2005 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, REVIVE! Phil, Jon, whoever, lets set a date for some MULTIPLAYER ACTION.

(I still haven't finished the evacuation mission)

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 4 February 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i was getting pretty good at this, but i played too much in the span of a week, and then havent played it since

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 4 February 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I have finally done the evacuation mission! Had to redo the previous two missions and it still took like twenty attempts. People who like hard difficult abtruse shit need to be Rise-of-Wesnothing like yesterday.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

greg, thanks for reviving this when i'm looking at the computer at home, as i keep on forgetting about it, right, if off for some downloadin'

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Saturday, 12 February 2005 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay! We still need multiplayer action someday :(

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 12 February 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I need some new campaigns....

he does guitar with his mouth lmao mint (ex machina), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
i just downloaded this.

gbx (skowly), Sunday, 16 April 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

Me too! Somebody (prob'ly Gravel) mentioned it on ILG. It's a bit hard, like.

Mingus Realty (noodle vague), Sunday, 16 April 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

i gotta get back into this! i was pretty wild about it for a while

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 16 April 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

Fire Emblem ate this part of my brain, 'heroic' mission still glorious though.

Does this sort of game work multiplayer?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 16 April 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, this took a ton of my time. i love it though

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 16 April 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)
