The best fast food snack since Burger King's oft-forgotten Spooner?

It's like eating a little piece of heaven. A little steep for 99cents, but, hey, things are tough all over. I'm going to go buy ten of them and keep them in the house.

i love empanadas. but there is no taco bell in quebec. but there is a great chilean empanada place around the corner. so the universe is balanced.

they're waaaaay too sweet though! Those fried potatoes doused in sour cream and nacho cheese with green onions are heavenly however.

Empanadas aren't supposed to be really sweet! They're only supposed to be as sweet as homemade pumpkin pie, unless the pumpkin pies I've consumed at home have been not as sweet as "regular" homemade pumpkin pie. But anyway, empanadas (the sweet kind, sure) are supposed to be sweet, but not cloyingly so, and the crust is supposed to be flaky and buttery and irresistible.

I'll have to, for research, try out a Taco Bell empanada and compare it to what the best of our local panaderias have to offer.

Dude. I only now just remembered the reference to the empanada at Taco Bell at that particular thread. Apparently, the filling is apple... ? I mean, it's not like there's no such thing as an authentic apple empanada, but the default empanada variety is a sweet potato one (um, I *think* camote = sweet potato), so....

It's Taco Bell, dude.

Here's a link to the thread btw Taco Bell: Classic or Dud?

eight years pass...

i had a great, non-taco-bell jamaican empanada yesterday. i went to buy a samosa & only chose it as a backup when i saw the empty samosa tray but its satisfaction has stretched from then until now, its soft chewy warmth lasted through sleep & into today's rain.

taco bell apparently test-marketing waffle-tacos now.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 20:59 (twelve years ago)

c'mon philip don't make me start a dedicated empanada thread, let's keep this about my empanada experience

daft on the causes of punk (schlump), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 21:06 (twelve years ago)

i am actually pretty interested in waffles too but maybe we could keep it positive & stay away from stories of taco bell mutilation

daft on the causes of punk (schlump), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 21:07 (twelve years ago)

where did you go that sells both samosas and empanadas that wasn't a taco bell lab?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

it was just the deli counter at the grocery store. they have a pretty dedicated empanada selection & then do meat & non-meat samosas which is what i was there for. empanadas are abundant here but i have just been blind to them for awhile, this was the gateway that means i can get serious & really plunge into the empanada scene.

empanadas are great, never been to a taco bell but they seem kinda horrible

Moldy ★☆☆☆☆ (wins), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 21:33 (twelve years ago)

Taco Bell is only disappointing/terrible if you treat it as an attempt to make authentic Mexican food

AMERICA IS ABOUT RESSLING (DJP), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 21:35 (twelve years ago)

lol I live in a country where authentic mexican food literally doesn't exist :-(

I only really know about taco bell from the movie demolition man so I should shut up

Whenever Neil Hamburger does the thing where he re-Tweets a half dozen people complaining about Taco Bell giving them food poisoning, I laugh heartily and then REALLY wish I had some Taco Bell.
