Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 24 October 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The Tarzan and Zippy references are just doing my head in, frankly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 24 October 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The third one could be "Wow Grandma! Mommy can only take one fist."

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 24 October 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

1. "Come on, Tarzan! Let's go rub our tallywhackers on Kittycat!"

2. "Mommy, Zippy's back! What does pre-cum mean?"

3. "Grandma, Billy just drank out of your hot water bottle!"

Family Circus always amazed me at how stupefyingly unfunny it was.

Here are some captions that attempt to capture the comic's original spirit:

1. "I'm king of the jungle!"

2. "Mommy, where did Zippy go?"

3. "Grandma, why won't it stop raining?"

Lingbert, Monday, 25 October 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, i guess that sort of deafeats the purpose of the thread.

I keep thinking of my Prehistory of the Farside book in which Larson has a section on syndication stuffups, where Farside was printed up next to Family Circus with the captions accidentally swapped.

I'd scan it if I had a scanner but the one of the kid looking up at his mom with "I see your tiny shrunken head somewhere on a shelf" always had me in hysterics.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe that was Dennis the Menace. I dont know. I'm tired.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

wow. what was the original caption on the zippy one?

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:24 (twenty-one years ago)

roffle

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

1. "Why doesn't Tarzan shave his balls."
2. "Mom, I dreamt that a guy with a pointy head wanted to touch my anus."
3. "Grandma will give you whole quarter if you rub her cooter."

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/jcoombs/family_circus.jpg

1. "My mum's gonna have a sex change and then I'm gonna marry her..."

2. "That's it young man! No more LSD after dinner for you!"

3. "Grandma, if you're not ovulating anymore, I won't need a condom right?"

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(Oh my god I'm sick!)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

1. "I wanna be a caveman."
2. "Mommy, I had a dream about a clown."
3. "Gramma, do you have $200? I need to buy something that'll fuck me up real good."

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

1. "Tarzan don't need his bitch bossing him around like that!"
2. "Mommy, I had this 'special' dream about a clown, and when I woke up my sheets were sticky!"
3. "Seriously Gramma, I need some high-quality shit. My model airplane glue just ain't cutting it anymore."

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

1. Sometimes I wish my mom were Glenn Danzig.
2. Mommy, I had a beautiful dream that our comic strip was funny, just like Zippy.
3. Mrs. Bush, why is your son such a fuck-up?

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, have you never heard of the Dysfunctional Family Circus? After a quick google search I think this is the right link:

sgs (sgs), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

(anyway, sorry, didn't mean to kill the thread. Tuomas made me laugh!)

sgs (sgs), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought the DFC was taken down. The author of Family Circus complained and after the guy who ran the DFC talked to him, he felt a little sad & guilty for attacking a nice guy like Bill Keane.

So it's back then, is it?
