I want to learn how to play Skat

A recent conversation with an emphatic fan of the game piqued my interest. The only other trick based card games I've ever played were Spades, Hearts and Pinochle. Anybody else play?

It's a very good game, very strategic. I haven't played it very much but I definitely recommend it. It's fantastic in that there aren't that many good games for three people.

It probably doesn't ruin the jokes AT ALL that it's pronounced closer to "skart", either.

Etymology: German, modification of Italian scarto discard, from scartare to discard, from s- (from Latin ex-) + carta card

Still, if you're an American, it's closer to "Scot" than "Skart".
