The "street" in question being Regent's Street in London's Trendy London, the time in question being 17.30 THIS SUNDAY, the occasion? Er, switching on some lights, or something. Honestly, they'd go to the opening of an envelope and so on and so forth.

Who's with me! Via a few warming pints in an adjacent boozer, of course. Bring your mittens!

Alan Partridge (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:02 (twenty years ago)

RAH!

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:02 (twenty years ago)

someone should link this thread to the 'keep kate informed about what's happening' thread.

maybe i'll do that, instead of writing about doing it. now that's initiative.

i like the christmas lights thing on its own. hmm.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:03 (twenty years ago)

HOORAY! I was thinking of meeting in the Black Lion and French Horn on Pollen Street, unless anyone else has any other suggestions?

(I haven't been before, I just fancy a change and it looks like it's a bit off the beaten track to be as rammed as some others I cd name)

Starry (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:06 (twenty years ago)

i'm up for this.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:08 (twenty years ago)

DON'T DO IT! IT'S A TRAP! You'll all be standing there and the lights will come on and read VOTE CONSERVATIVE and TONY BLIAR and you will be powerless to resist!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:09 (twenty years ago)

I'm totally going.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm up for Tory Busted turning on the Regent Street lights by means of their being forcibly strapped into electric chairs and fried to a Friedmanesque crisp.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:10 (twenty years ago)

b-b-b-but I expect that the only people ov voting age will be our fine selves Matt and we are too old and wise to be taken in by the Tory Floppy Fringe, aren't we?

Aren't... we?

Tory Busted, yesterday

Starry (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:11 (twenty years ago)

On the other hand, the BL&FH is one of my local work boozers and rivals the Sam Smiths pubs for cheap bouze. Not a bad pub either, although you might want to ph**e a***d to check its open as its a bit of an office worker haunt.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:13 (twenty years ago)

I'm there. Like, duh.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:15 (twenty years ago)

hmm, probably pop along, i have a feeling there's something else on sunday, but can't quite place it...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Matt: surely it being your work local = gd excuse for lunchtime pint to go and check in person? :)

Starry (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:31 (twenty years ago)

Way ahead of you Shabazz...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:36 (twenty years ago)

That reminds me!

Starry (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Man this is so exciting. I am going to knit some MITTENS for the event!!

Shabazz (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:38 (twenty years ago)

With Charlie Busted's FACE on them. Or something.

Shabazz (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:43 (twenty years ago)

i agree that this is probably a sophistimacated Tory recruitment doowacky

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:06 (twenty years ago)

sponsored by The Incredibles

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Michael Howard will be DJing afterwards.

robster (robster), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:25 (twenty years ago)

Uuuuhhhhh...

OK, I'm scared. Do you think that they will divert the 159 for this?

I['m sure Catty will go with me.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:27 (twenty years ago)

I think it's this Sunday that I am meeting old friends elsewhere (not at home, so can't check now), so I don't think I'll be coming.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:01 (twenty years ago)

Just been down there - the pub is closed on Sundays and its likely that all of them on the Mayfair side of Regent Street will be.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh man! That's a whole world of rub.

Shabazz (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Hey let's all go to the Jewel Bar http://www.jewel-bar.co.uk/

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:35 (twenty years ago)

It would be good to see Busted turning on the lights and ILXoRs, but I can not say for sure.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Yep, I do have other commitments this Sunday. Not that I am one of the biggest Busted fans around here anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 19:04 (twenty years ago)

woot, busted, sunday, everything!!

i understand there will be meeting in glasshouse stores, time to be announced...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:09 (twenty years ago)

4pm onwards alright for you guys?

That all star line-up IN FULL -

"Live music from every decade since the start of the Regent Street
Christmas Lights

- Jive Aces representing the 50's
- Alpha Connection representing the 60's
- The Hoggz representing the 70's
- So 80's representing the 80's
- Alpha Connection representing the 90's
- And star attraction…Busted representing the 00's"

I presume these are all rub tribute bands of some description.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:14 (twenty years ago)

I really want to do this! Where can we meet instead? Sigh. I'm sure that Catty will be up for it, too!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:21 (twenty years ago)

dood, all the pubs in the mayfair area are shut of a sunday you see, hence going for GHS...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Taking off for PLANET JIVE!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:27 (twenty years ago)

I thought it was Busted performing live to THE STREETS and i got all excited.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:27 (twenty years ago)

GHS is always good! Cheap, too! Cheap is necessary.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

and the familiarity is always a bonus.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:31 (twenty years ago)

I can't work out if this is an advert for a high-tat 80s cover band or a fashionista electroclash night.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:47 (twenty years ago)

did anyone else go? the tv screen had the least good sound of any concert i've ever seen anywhere. and the lights have been on all week. but apart from that...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 8 November 2004 00:47 (twenty years ago)

Dammit, I missed it due to my hangover, and, erm, waking up in Tooting. It's nice when you wake up on a strange couch and realise you're a short walk from your doorstep.

How was it, apart from the sound? I mean, who goes to a Busted gig for the *sound*?

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:23 (twenty years ago)

They were shit, I presume?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:25 (twenty years ago)

Be nice, Barry.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:29 (twenty years ago)

Haha, when I first read the thread title I thought Starry had been arrested while playing on the street.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:32 (twenty years ago)

GHS most empty i've seen it. i enjoyed the tory sloganeering.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:35 (twenty years ago)

What Tory sloganeering? I'm still in denial, you see.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:38 (twenty years ago)

there was

New Laaaabour wants to go in to Europe... but you said NO!

and

New Laaabour wants much more stealth taxes... but you said NO!

and so on (also works with Asylum Seekers, esp Bogus ones)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:44 (twenty years ago)

They actually said that, or are you making that up?

I really can't tell any more.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:45 (twenty years ago)

i am a bad wickle boy.

no they did not do any of that. they did Air Hostess, You Said No (or is that Crash and Burn?) and then Thunderbirds/Incredibles mashup NOT REALLY, they did Crashed the Wedding 3rd. then did lights then went. there was some "this is great" banter. and that was that.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:48 (twenty years ago)

I think... (I may be wrong) that Crash & Burn is the same song as You Said No but the changed the title after, erm, 9/11 or some terrible crashing and burning, when they thought it might be offensive.

Damn. I almost hoped that they had done something truly *that* offensive as start spouting Tory bollocks.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:51 (twenty years ago)

that's my take on it too, Kate (the song just changed name between album and single release)
