it just keeps getting worse...

Proposition 69

DNA Samples. Collection. Database. Funding.
Initiative Statute.

Requires collection of DNA samples from all felons, and from adults and juveniles arrested for or charged with specified crimes, and submission to state DNA database; and; in five years, from adults arrested for or charged with any felony.

passing by 60-40 ... are other states doing this already?? people are up in arms about stem cell research but largely in support of a dna database?? am i the only (californian) who saw this on the ballot and thought "total madness"??

yes other states are doing it. I voted no.

I also voted no, but this lady who was sitting next to me at work voted yes since evidently she thinks "felons" only applies to EVIL DRUG USERS.

At least we didn't have a same-sex question on there.

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 10:18 (twenty years ago)

You already banned same-sex marriage years ago via Prop 22.

also i am bummed that ... WE OUTLAWED CLONING

=(

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 10:19 (twenty years ago)

ok just kidding but also on the lighter side i am glad that prop 63 also passed because those billions in mental health funding are going to come in real handy over the next four years.

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 10:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah but apparently that "ban" didn't mean jack to Mayor Newsom. And didn't some of the 11 states who "banned" same-sex marriage last night, already have laws practically stating that already, in slightly different language ? I don't keep up with this issue, since I'm kinda against marriage regardless!

At least the stem-cell victory is "something," you know ? And yeah, for 63. I had a friend who works in the mental health field who says that one was real important for us to win.

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 10:23 (twenty years ago)

We join 34 other states that do this shit already. I'm not gonna type them out at this late hour, look in your voter information guide.

[Scratch the first "already" in my second sentence, but can we just fuck the ILX - proper syntax / diction / spelling self-consciousness right now ? ]

How did the legalizing pot initiative go in Alaska ?

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 10:27 (twenty years ago)

To pot.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 13:55 (twenty years ago)

What I'm most annoyed about is the loss of the three strikes revision. That I thought was extremely important, and it bugs.

But yeah, hurrah for 63! A good victory.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

"Proposition 69"

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 14:04 (twenty years ago)

sounds kinda french

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 3 November 2004 14:12 (twenty years ago)

people in california can't fucking read. they think something sounds good and the vote for it. therew as not a concerted effort to place ads against prop 69, unfortunately. I voted no, so did my wife. But I can see why people voted yes (they skimmed the proposition).
