I thought it was 'gala' or something and it was a type of bird. Is there any grain of truth in this or did my brain invent it for no apparent reason all by itself?

Have you seen the posters round town for the return of Home and Away, I'm thinking of the one featuring a surprised / dismayed / indignant looking Alf / Ray surrounded by a bevy of Summer Bay's finest talent (i.e a bunch of bobfocs). Well anyway they are very, uh, bright.

It is a kind of bird; some kind of cockatoo or parakeet or something noted for its zany behaviour. Yes, I've seen the posters....what would Ailsa say?

MarkH, Wednesday, 11 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

who knows? ailsa is insane and scary

I can see how flying and building a nest are zany but what else can birds do that is zany?

As Ailsa is a convicted murderess or manslaughterer or something, Alfie boy better watch out.

Whatdyamean? The actress Judy Nunn or the character? So who else is in the new version? Pippa? Fisher?

MarkH, Wednesday, 11 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Oh and I think the species of bird in question can hang upside down on its perch...that sort of thing.

Isn't a galaar a certain kind of hoon?

Ray Meagher is definitely a classic. As is Norman Coburn (Ol' flathead). And Dieter Brummer because he sounds like he may have been born in a German suburb of Birmingham.

He's a great actor, I can't understand why he's ended up in a caricature soap role for years and years. I suppose it's a steady income, soon-to-be-pensioner thing. As well as Gallipoli, he was in The Best Australian Mini-Series Evah, The Shiralee.

Ailsa tried to smother Duncan when he was a wee bairn, saw Bobby's face coming out of the fridge and the murderess story does ring a bell. She's just one great big psycho bitch from hell, isn't she? According to the Home and Away website, she's about to be killed off.

I think she stabbed her violent abusive father (or maybe stepfather) when she was a young lass hence imprisonment and a lifetime of bad hair. Unlike Anna Friel of course for whom it meant a lifetime of hanging out with bigger slebz in a futile attempt to gain anything above C list fame.

Is it me or did Sally's tits used to be bigger?

Pete, Thursday, 12 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Sally's tits got smaller??? Damn I won't be watching the new series then.

I've seen a galaar (or however it's spent) Horrible ugly things, a bit like a big magpie but with pink bits on and very very noisy (which is where the insult comes from I believe.

Kookaburras are a mucher classier sort of bird though.

three years pass...
Revive!

Ray Meagher was Jeff Butler in Prisoner, the nasty terrorist (from the days when terrorists where white men who planted bombs) who killed Jim Fletcher's family, which caused him to have to take up the loving arms of Meg 'The Bike' Valentine.
