Now that the election went to Bush, will Michael Moore be nominated and win a best picture Oscar

Just as a way for AMPAS to shove it to Bush.

He can't be - if the movie was shown on TV before the election (as I believe had been arranged?) that disqualifies him from being nominated. And he knew and supported this.

Plus he's a filthy douchebag without a shred of academic honesty.

Even if you agree with his politics, which I sort of do (on some issues), his 'films' are assbaggery that don't deserve to be called documentaries.

assbaggery!

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Thursday, 4 November 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Truth be told, the assbaggery quotient of films that get nominated for Academy Awards is pretty damn high (and I say this as someone who tends to like these movies).

they screened it on tv here on monday (and it's still in theatres here). it prob wasn't very good, but i mean at that point eminem videos were getting me choked up, so i kind of inevitably responded to all the easy emotional manipulation.

"The English Patient is Oscar-caliber! Riveting performances all around! Ralph Fiennes shows once again why he is the finest leading man in movies today! Four stars!" - Dan Perry, Some Gazette

I did say "tends".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 4 November 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought that review showed your sensitive side actually and as we all know you can't say "tender" without "tends" or something

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 4 November 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

My real review would probably read something like:

"The English Patient was so ridiculously boring that I could actually sense my tonsils attempting to shoot out of the top of my school in a desperate bid to save myself from the oppressive ennui. This is going to kill at the Oscars."

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 4 November 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Anthony Minghella - he doesn't have "ming" in his name for nothing.

It is still eligible for Best Picture, just not the docu category.

Regardless of politics, Farenheit 911 just wasn't very good. Bowling for Columbine was.

(the splash image on moore's website - does it say more about bush's opportunism, or moore's?)

colin, was that directed at me? if so - yes, i do. but i think there's actually something rather de-humanizing about that/those portrait/s. it feels cheap, to me.
