I'm not sure how this happened. We met on the smoking porch at a party and bonded over in-depth discussions of writing, football, and the MLB playoffs. We never talked politics. I asked for her number, she gave it to me, we talked a few days later on the phone, and we met for some Mexican food tonight, followed by coffee.
Whilst sharing coffee and a smoke, I mentioned how disappointed I was because Kerry had lost. She looked at me and said "Kerry supporter, eh?", in a way that indicated "I voted Bush!" I nodded, she shrugged and said, "he seemed like an all right guy, I voted for the other one." There was a moment of silence and we both quickly agreed not to talk politics.
Actually I might have talked politics with her, but she was very charming and smart and nice and superhot and I was having a good time and didn't feel like arguing about politics would do any good. I've done enough of that. I don't think anything will come of this in the end, we seem to be very different in many ways other than political.
But the national healing has begun.
