London FALACE? (Fancy a laugh at Charlie's expense?) - DJ CharlieNo4 @ 333 Old St Fri 5th November 2004

Help, I can't believe I've been asked to do this, but I have, so please come and look after me/dance sympathetically/sit in the corner pouting/buy me a conciliatory beer cos nobody's dancing to "Chewing Gum"...

Here's the spiel (not written by me, I hasten to add):

Fridays @ 333

From now on 333, on Friday nights, goes back to its roots...

333 was the original (and quite possibly the best) stoopid party venue of all time. Back when everyone else was still putting on the same old house beats (or drum’n’bass if they were ‘really adventurous’) the 333 was pioneering the party and rock anthem school of DJing.

No mixing skills necessary, although they don’t do any harm, just great tunes one after the other…Three floors of completely different party sounds Rock & Indie, Pop, Hip-Hop/R&B and some great ‘proper’ dance beats thrown in for good measure (but definitely nothing serious and moody!

Its fireworks and zombies tonight with OSYMYSO (Radio 1), who provided the soundtrack to 'Shaun of the Dead'.

Naturally, anyone dressed up like a zombie, or a firework, gets in for half-price- but REAL zombies get in free. That's the zombies taken care of- the fireworks will be exploding from the irrepressible Mr.Party Genius himself Mister ALDO VANNUCCI (none other than FAT BOY SLIM'S support dj and crate digger!!!).

Below decks, pure bashment and hip-hop collide with the rockin' ska breaks of SET THE TONE rubbing up against the hip-hopping beats of ATTICA BLUES.

Finally, strap yourself on a rocket up to the Mother Bar and find MARSHMALLOW MIKE & CHARLIENO4 rinsing out the real rock & indie party rubbish.

Doors 10PM-5AM Entry £5b4-11/£10after/£8TOPpass/NUS

What better way to spend your post-fireworks evening?

I'm not on til after midnight, but I'm assured we'll still be going at 4am.

Cheap guest list to anyone who wants it, just email me offlist.

All tune requests will be listened to, noted and then probably forgotten - but do try anyway, just in case I do indeed have Baltimora...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 4 November 2004 12:50 (twenty years ago)

haha I'm going to bump up this sad-looking lonely thread just in case anybody actually missed it, as opposed to just studiously igniring it and whistling innocently like an atonal builder...

:-)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 5 November 2004 07:39 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, I really would like to be going to this, but I've not got the money for a bus pass to Old Street, let alone enough money to get me drunk enough to dance at Mother.

Plus, shouldn't Mother be free? Sigh.

Sounds like it should be a good night, tho...

Sorry Charliepants.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Ooh. Was planning on a TV night in with a friend, but this sounds tempting for later... she's broke though (to a lesser extent so am I) so it'll depend if she has a Travelcard for today. And if we manage to get there before 11.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Ach, to be in London. I would be along. But I am not. bah.

3underscore (___), Friday, 5 November 2004 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Wrong country. Sounds classic, though.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 5 November 2004 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Nope, my friend cannot afford to leave Stratford today :( It sounds ace though. I think I was at the Mother Bar last Saturday.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 5 November 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

i repeat: cheap (ie £4 maximum and maybe even free) guest list to those who want it. email below...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago)

mmm, art...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Charlie - did you get my email?

shit, only got it this morning! hope you got in ok.

They moved us to the mother bar proper cos 333 itself wasn't busy enough to justify opening it all up, with the net result that a. loads of people paid when they could've got in free cos mother has no cover charge, and b. we came on at 1am to a room already so mentally busy we couldn't fail.

So. Much. Fun!

Will try and work out what the hell I played at some point, but my memories are of champagne and Annie and Johnny Cash and Wings ("Goodnight Tonight", yeah!) and Graham Coxon and sticky floors and random Eurotrash strangers begging for Placebo. Aw lovely.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 8 November 2004 09:36 (twenty years ago)

evelyn "champagne" king?

i was in bed by 11.30, rock gigs start/finish early these days...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 8 November 2004 09:58 (twenty years ago)

no, actual bubbly stuff, which some absurdly (drunkly) grateful punters kept handing to us. i felt like a fucking superstar, even though i was shtting my boots the whole time, terrified that everyone would suddenyl stop dancing and pointedly walk away. they didn't. hope they have us back!
