from our new national anthem, Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue"

"Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin’ in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July"

This would be a great title for a story/poem/mediocre math rock song.

I just saw footage of this on the news. It was real pretty.

It was! My instinctive reaction was "ooooo!" - and then I felt a bit guilty for thinking that when there were the people killed and injured, all the evacuated residents and destroyed homes, and so on.

It looked amazing and must be horrific. I honestly didn't mean this thread to be a kind of "way-hey" - it's just that it made me think of Naked Gun. Not meant to be in poor taste. Um... anyway...

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 4 November 2004 23:24 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't normally have tried to justify this thread, but ile today has been a bit nervy and nobody's been given the benefit of the doubt in pretty much any thread. In fact – OMG!!!!!! – the whole board has been like a fire in a fireworks factory!!1!

What a simile. Ok that's my last post for the day.

I saw it on NBC, and I must say it looked pretty fuckin' bitchin'.

oops (Oops), Friday, 5 November 2004 00:12 (twenty years ago)

it did look great. and on the news i caught last night it was followed by a story about an icelandic volcano spewing huge plumes of black and white smoke into the air that looked just as spectacular.
