They're too large. The links are fine, though.

I don't understand what's wrong with the first one

Steve.n. (sjkirk), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, I never knew there was a size limit. What is it, for future reference?

trigonalmayhem (trigonalmayhem), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The "YES!!!!!!" banner ad above the headline.

These are amazing.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah right -- I didn't see that.

Prefer the others anyway.

Steve.n. (sjkirk), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

it never ceases to amaze me how oblivious their web designers are.

I love the way I get brushed off by their customer service people, too.

I'm going to search for my emails about this

trigonalmayhem (trigonalmayhem), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

That barbeque one is horrifically funny.

My Original message (submitted via their website form)

===========================================================
So, I just thought you should maybe consider how appropriate certain
pictures you have on your frontpage are given certain headlines you are
running concurrently.

Just to give you a couple examples from today:

http://www.trigonalmayhem.com/bostonwtf2.jpg

Is there a person in charge of this? Because I could probably do their job
and not make these kind of oversights. I *am* a competent web developer
looking for a job.

Just in case, you know.

Their response:

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for writing to Boston.com. We apologize for the photo of the
person, who is smiling with BBQ sauce, or Damon look-alikes offended you in
any way. Most articles on our homepage tend to have photos associated with
them, and this particular article was no different. We have forwarded your
comment to our editorial department for their consideration moving forward.

We do take comments from our users VERY seriously, and we appreciate you
taking the time to write in with your concerns. Feel free to write back at
any time.

Thank you,

Customer Support

My response to their response
======================================================

Hi Mysterious Customer Service Person,

Actually I'm not personally offended by this, but I think you may have
missed the point. The pictures in both cases seem as if they DO go with the
headlining news story about the murder trial. It's either a little
disturbing or very funny, depending on your particular disposition, but I
was just writing to let you know that I (and I'm sure many others)
mistakenly construe the image and the headline to be related because of
their positioning on the page.

Thanks,

Wayne Coppock

OH! PS- I think maybe you meant "if" instead of "for" in your response. I
think the meaning still came across, but I figured I'd let you know
anyway.

=========================================================

After that they stopped responding to me, unfortunately.

A friend of mine used to work for Boston.com and... you probably don't really want to work there anyway.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, my domain just redirects for now.
when I graduate I'll get a real host, but for now school does the job.
You know this (awful) place?

trigonalmayhem (trigonalmayhem), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

well, I'd honestly just like a job dicking around with a website all day that pays decently enough to live in the city and start paying off my loans.

I don't want any jobs that my degree qualify me for.

trigonalmayhem (trigonalmayhem), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

No I just reflexively google people when I'm bored at work

TOMBOT, Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

trigonalmayhem (trigonalmayhem), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)
