Phonetic, linguistic resource needed

I don't have a lot of expertise in this field, but I know there are those here who do. What I need is a resource, probably electronic, that will enable me to search for all the words in the English language that contain a particular consonant cluster. Where do I turn?

Are you at university? If so, see what kind of tools are available online through your linguistics department.

I'm long out of school, but could probably access one. Thanks.

briania (briania), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Out of curiosity, what's the cluster?

Laura E (laurae55), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, there are several. As a case in point, "mn" as in damn, hymn or column. Another is "lk" as in milk, folk, elk.

briania (briania), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Briania, probably not exactly what you want, but Lexpert can do something like this.

It finds 523 MN words and 686 LK words, but it's using a very specialised set of dictionaries.

Edward, that's exactly what I was looking for -- thanks a million!

briania (briania), Friday, 5 November 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

You can have hours of fun with it. If you're a complete nerd. Which I am.

I'm at work now, but once I get home -- see y'all next week!
