Oh, no.

the bellefox, Friday, 5 November 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

How much worse is this week going to get?

the bellefox, Friday, 5 November 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

hi, PF

RJG (RJG), Friday, 5 November 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

crosspost

RJG (RJG), Friday, 5 November 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

chin up, now they might score some goals?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 5 November 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello, Dick. Where are you?

Can you tell I am upset?

the bellefox, Friday, 5 November 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I am at home.

I imagine, that you are upset.

I am a little upset, myself!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 5 November 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This is going to be an interesting story. First thing that springs to mind is a falling out on a massive scale.

I think Martin Jol will get the full-time job, or perhaps Frank will step in from out of the shadows?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 November 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Dick: What about? The same thing? Things?

the bellefox, Friday, 5 November 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess David Pleat has to come back.

the bellefox, Friday, 5 November 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

story is so new that the beeb put it on a Norwich City page!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 November 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

the same things, as usual, maybe.

I had actually heard of santini and before he started, at spurs, and about him starting, at spurs. I heard, during the world cup. maybe alba told me. I have, even, brought santini up, in conversation, with a person who likes football. maybe I will bring him up, again, another day, now. it is not very upsetting, to me, but it would make me feel worse, rather than better and, maybe, rather than no different.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 5 November 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, you can see that it upsets me, so, you can be empathetic. !

the bellefox, Friday, 5 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hoddle is available at the moment, last I heard.

After what he achieved with maybe the best bunch of players in the world when managing France the last few years, and Tottenham's recent decline, I am not convinced this is such a big loss. But I sympathise with The Pinefox (and Matt) anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 5 November 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I would give Hoddle the job, yes.

the bellefox, Friday, 5 November 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know the groundsman's assistant had also left.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 November 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

This is incredible. And somewhat sickening. Once again a new manager
saviour leaves the club without any of the promised "glory" coiming our way. Our greatest managerial success in the 90S-00S? George Graham. Amen to that.

OTOH, was Santini a good manager after all? Couldn't Gordon Strachan win the French league? Maybe even Hoddle.

spurs person, Friday, 5 November 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I'm still pretty shocked. I thought Santini would at least put things on track, he'd started to.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 November 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay possible reasons for this:

1. Santini or one of his family is seriously ill in some way
2. Santini's wife has put pressure on him to move back to France, or he is going through some other kind of big family trauma
3. He has realised what an uphill struggle he has on his hands

Santini's record with France is largely irrelevent, when you consider how poorly their own players played in Euro2004, and how bad those that remain have been since.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 November 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Option 4. That he has clashed bigstyle with Arnesen/Jol, and the working relationship has broken down. If I'm honest, I'd rather see Santini go than Arnesen.

On the other hand, we will be without a proper manager for the second consecutive season, and what seemed to be a period of stability and teambuilding is now yet another period of transition and uncertainty, and once again players might be wondering if they made the right decision to move to Tottenham. God knows what Defoe will do now.

Anyone like to enter a sweepstake on how many papers will lead with the line "Spurs fans are used to false dawns..."

I hear the new manager is Ian Atkins.

Nooooooooooooooo!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 5 November 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont like the premiership anyway, you are all spoiled, with your 'big' teams.

The Mirror: JACQUES OFF!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 November 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

spurs a 'big team'?!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 5 November 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

my team is huddersfield. you are all 'big' to me, whatever, you know

*@*.* (gareth), Saturday, 6 November 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

don't go all indie on me dude -- I can see through it.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 6 November 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

sir bobby for the rest of the season, then paul jewell would be nice.

i'd be willing to bet that it was a major falling out btwn santini and arnesen, perhaps de jol will simply take over full time.

i'm not sure santini was the man for the job anyway- he seemed to have major problems simply getting them to pass the ball straight.

da.rraghmac, Saturday, 6 November 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I am finally willing to renounce my belief that Martin O'Neill would never leave Celtic and accept it if he decides this is the job for him this time. I presume he's being linked with it?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 6 November 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably, but I doubt if he'd want to work in the set up, he'd just be head coach.

I reckon Martin Jol will take the job full-time.

I think they are playing Arsenal next.

:(

Scored 2 goals for once

:)

Let in 3

:(

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 6 November 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The freefall continues...

Possibles:
Jol (will do, knows the players as much as anyone can in 3 months, continuity, young and motivated)
Taylor (once a Spurs man, still got sth to prove, works well with young'uns)
Redknapp (father of the skipper, one last shot at a, ahem, 'big club' before he retires, goes for quality football)
ermm... Cruyff ? please ????

darren (darren), Saturday, 6 November 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they will stick with the dual football director/head coach thing that has been sitting there sort of behind Santini, so Jol for a while, see how it goes.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 6 November 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Houllier, Houllier, Houllier.

Venga, Saturday, 6 November 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It won't work unless you say it to a mirror.

Bumfluff, Saturday, 6 November 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

so it looks like the 'personal' stuff wz a smokescreen to hide disagreements between santini and arnesen who wanted a more attacking unit. hilarious.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 7 November 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm wetting my pants!

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 7 November 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I need a gd laugh as I'm not feeling well today.

x-post

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 7 November 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Jol is kinda like Jel, so I think it'll be a good appointment.

Spurs appoint Jol as new manager
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/3989963.stm

[The new] Christian Gross [No]Mark 2 ?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 8 November 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i agree that jel should take the job.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 8 November 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

If they didn't want Santini as part of the structure, I suppose they shouldn't have appointed him in the first place.

If they did, he should not have been put in an untenable position.

Perhaps he was not.

Jol: P1 L1.

the bluefox, Monday, 8 November 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm optimistic about Jol. I am a Spurs follower after all.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 8 November 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think you can judge Jol on one match less than 24 hours after the manager had suddenly walked out. He's been highly rated in Holland and presumably he has a decent working relationship with Arnesen, which is what is really crucial here - we won't see the usual clearout of the previous manager's signings and there's some continuity. And he can speak English properly - if things had continued to go wrong for Santini it would've been near impossible for him to restore the respect of the squad given the language barrier.

He can't be any worse than Hoddle.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 8 November 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

was Hoddle worse than Gross, Ardiles or Graham?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 8 November 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Spurs fans when they next win a match can sing: For he's a jolly good fellow, For he's a jolly good fellow...and so say all of us...
