Hey, listen to my band

These were for an album we made in Atlanta, but because of some complications and people leaving, the band is no longer together and nothing is going to happen with the recordings (as far as I can tell) I just heard them for the first time. No one got to mix them, and we can't get them from the person who has them.

But at least we were able to get him to post rough mixes on the internet:

We were never famous or succesful, but I like some of the songs we made.

My favorite from the selection might be "Mating with the Stars" but the keyboardist never liked that one, so what do I know.

what/who do you sound like?

I'm not the best one to try and answer that, but maybe Blood Brothers/OMD/the wake/serge gainsbourg?

the bass part (which I played) that I'm the most proud of is in
"Requiem for Ingeborg Bachmann"

I liked "Requiem for Ingeborg Bachmann" a lot. It is catchy in a way that another song I know is, but I can't remember which one.

After that, I listened to "Other People's Suicides", and I didn't like it so much because it sounded like the first song. It was a bit cheeky. I do like the keyboards but I wouldn't want to listen to them day in day out. I didn't like the lyrics so much, also.

Then I listened to "Christina Rossetti", because I like her, especially that poem with the fruit. It sounded like the first one, but not as much as the second one. A lot of reverb. In the last five seconds, the singer sounds like Jarvis Cocker.

Hooray, more band-pimping! Downloading Mating with the Stars now on my slow-ish work connection. Mind you, when I listen to it at work I will only be able to hear the left channel because my computer headphone jack is busted.

I like the distortion on the drums.

Eyeball Kicks, I could have used you on my download pimping-thread, I got next to zero actual feedback on the tunes (and I don't just mean from ILX). I don't mind negative crit, which most people are too nice to give I guess.

Jordan, I listened to your songs, and really that is not the kind of music I listen to on an everyday basis. 'Mobject' seemed pleasant & I know people who are always listening to this kind of stuff but I don't. The one thing I can say about it is that it was louder than A. Nairn's songs cos I had to turn the stereo down. Well done for that!

'Every Day a Battle' was much more like it. The drums at the beginning sounded like a support band playing to a mostly empty room. It was exactly that sound, and I don't know how you got it. The snare! Then I liked very much the brass, and wished it would get noisier and more extravagent. Then someone started speaking & they sounded a bit under the weather. I tend not to like speaking in songs much, unless the speaker has something really clever to say. I don't know if your speaker did, cos I got distracted. I would like even more brass.

Thanks! :>

cos I got distracted

Oh, and I didn't mean by 'I got distracted' that I got bored. I was distracted by someone leaping into the room!

I thought this said "Hey, listen to my hand" - I thought after all the years of talking to it, it was finally going to say something back.

Seriously, thx, for whatever reason people not saying anything plays on my insecurities a lot more than constructive/negative feedback. I agree that the mix needs a lot more brass and I need to do some things to my questionable spoken part to make it sound less questionable (the end gets pretty noisy & extravagant btw!).

Sorry to hijack your thread A. Nairn. I'l listen with BOTH channels when I get home.
