Oh my gosh, it would be awesome if dubya could be president for a third term, I'd vote for him as long as he'd be willing to lead us. Those towelheads love the fact that every four years our government has the chance to get taken over by liberals. The 22nd amendment is UNAMERICAN. In fact we should pass an amendment to not only allow dubya to have more terms but also to allow him total control of military funding. The president should have the power to do what is RIGHT and NECESSARRY for our survival. Our LIVES are at stake nowadays, and we need to eradicate terrorists around the world. I pray that we don't stop with Iraq after all the liberal whining about the good we're doing there. I pray every day that our great leader George W. Bush will lead us to victory around the globe against countries like Iraq that could kill millions of God fearing americans with their atomic bombs and gas and hoards of screaming maniacs who hate freedom!

Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood!
This is my new favorite website!
"John Cougar Mellencamp, anti-American musician and has-been, will be performing at halftime of the Colts/Lions NFL Thanksgiving Day football game. If you agree that Mellencamp does not deserve this honor and that his singing at an NFL halftime show while you have a full belly may lead to the entire family regurgitating grandma's turkey, then contact the NFL and CBS and ask them to please cancel his performance."
"Patriots:

Anti-American comedian George Carlin is coming to Syracuse on Dec. 11th for a concert at the Landmark Theatre. Guess who's going to be there to greet him?

Join me in letting George Carlin and his fans know that we take exception to his claim that 3000 Americans somehow deserved what they got on Sept. 11th. Spread the word, bring a friend, bring a sign.
I wonder how many concert-goers are aware of his beliefs relative to the War on Terror and 9/11? Those plunking $40 to support this vile person and his affluent lifestyle might re-think that purchase if they were truly aware of his views. The internet chain letter you've probably received at some point, wrongly attributed to both Carlin and Robin Williams, proudly declaring how great the USA is, has been strongly denounced by Carlin as an internet hoax (while most Americans forwarding it to others are saying "heck yeah, I agree 110%!)... No surprise there, as this self-loathing, hate-America celeb seems to think America is the bad guy in all of this and is apparently not ashamed to say so. That's certainly his right.
However, many of us feel that George Carlin may need to find a new line of work. He's exposed himself and his true feelings and we ain't buying no more of what he and his fellow anti-American celebs are shoveling.
Hey George, you're FIRED! Maybe France will enjoy your brand of humor and insights..."

I just threw up into my mouth.

Didn't Republicans push through the 22nd because a democrat president had too long in office and they didn't want another one to do that to them?

plebian plebs (plebian), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait a damn minute here. John Mellencamp, "anti-American"?!?! Uh, what? That is one of the most ridiculous claims I've ever heard in my entire bleeding life!! Damn, if anyone's a perfect spokesperson for America The Ideal, it'd be John Mellencamp! Oh wait -- if you want[ed] someone else to be president, someone other than Bush, that would make you anti-American in the eyes of this website, huh? (Very stupid.)

Also, "plebian plebs" makes a very good point. Thanks.

Accept No Substitutes (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait, I see the quote they're using as "proof" that John Mellencamp is "anti-American"

"George W. Bush has lied to us, failed to keep our own borders secure, entered a war under false pretense, endangered lives and created financial chaos."

Uh, that's it? Okay, granted, there was once a time when I too might've levied the "anti-American" slur Mellencamp's way for this statement, but now I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Rational minds can and do find Bush to be an incompetent liar, as this board has proven to me time and again. So this is it. Whoop-de-fucking-do. People should be allowed to find fault with the president; it's more than okay, it's actually supposed to be the American way.

*sighs*

Accept No Substitutes (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Dee, I think that statement is never unamerican.

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never particularly liked the 22nd amendment, but as the Republicans introduced it because they were pissed about how great FDR was I see no reason to repeal it now.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

First of all, this would never pass because the Rs know that the 2008 election would be george bush jr. -vs- The Mighty Bill Clinton.

Also, the John Mellencamp thing bothers me greatly. I'm not a fan of his music really, but unAmerican is something he definitely is not. I read an interview with him about a month ago .. seems that a lot of ingrates have forgotten about Farm Aid.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Dubya vs Slick Willy in a cage match! That wouldn't stop them, though, because it is conservatives' bugbear/blind spot, the fact that people actually did like and trust Bill Clinton, in enormous amounts. I think I remember some interview with him where he said he'd definitely run, if it wasn't for that amendment...

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Notice also the states is the only place where you can be UNsomething (anyone out there unbritish, unfrench)?

I refuse to give it, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Irony is if this amendment had went through Dubya would never beaten Slick Willy in 2000 and we wouldn't be where we are today.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Some would say that the first George Bush probably wouldn't have been elected either, with Reagan serving from 1981 to 1993. Once 1992 came around, Clinton would've easily beat Poppy especially with him not being an incumbent president.

(I'm starting to sound like one of those alternate history freaks. "And then, in the Spring of 2003, Bill Clinton would be caught getting another blowjob, this time at a closed-for-the-day Windows of the World restaurant...")

Clint Eastwood Ravine (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

'Notice also the states is the only place where you can be UNsomething (anyone out there unbritish, unfrench)?'

It's being used here in Australia -unAustralian I mean- in the same way as well, but this was great- from the leader of the opposition, Mark Latham:

"Mr Howard and his Government are just yes-men to the United States. There they are, a conga line of suckholes on the conservative side of Australian politics. The backbench sucks up to the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister sucks up to George W. That is how it works for the little tories, and they have the hide to call themselves Australians. In my book they are not Australians at all, just little tory suckholes. That is all they have left on their rotten little side of politics ...'

estela (estela), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I heart Aussie politics!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Crikey, a Reagan 3rd term. How old was he when he left office? GHW Bush would have faced Clinton in 1992 as a sitting Prez (perhaps acting) anyway, because no way the 25th doesn't get invoked during Reagan's 3rd term.

Imaging Clinton having bypass surgury in the middle of his campaign for a fourth term!

plebian plebs (plebian), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Reagan probably wouldn't have run even if he legally could have -- it had become nearly impossible to hide the Alzheimer's by the end of his second term.
