St. Paul Sandwich: C or D?

It's been a few years since I have had one.
I thought they were pure magic when I discovered them, but got burned out quick.
So, C or D?

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago)

These are pretty much unknown outside of St Louis, I think, but I'll give em a C.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:17 (twenty years ago)

ingredients, please.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:18 (twenty years ago)

What is it?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:20 (twenty years ago)

It's like a fried egg patty on white bread, with another meat or veggie patty. And other sandwich "fixins." Difficult to describe. Sold at Chinese restaurants in Missouri.
I live in Columbia, so they are known at least as far west of St. Louis as that. I wouldn't be surprised to find one in Kansas City, either.

It's all about St. Paul at the moment - that Time's Man of the Year is in the bag.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:25 (twenty years ago)

That sounds very disgusting.

I didn't need to start this thread.
I know these are classic.
I'm getting one today.

It's the wonder bread that really kills it.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:34 (twenty years ago)

WTF is wonder bread?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:53 (twenty years ago)

It's really cheap and bad white bread that they sell at like 7-11 and places like that. It has no texture or flavor. People from the 1950's loved it.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:53 (twenty years ago)

I'm with n/a on this one. Why would you put mayo on an egg? Is it just out of the desire for a heart attack? This is a good argument against Chinese/trailer park fusion cuisine.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:59 (twenty years ago)

The two people who've had it have given it a Classic, and then there was a lot of random white noise.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:01 (twenty years ago)

I can't fathom how it could taste good!

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Why would you put mayo on an egg?

To make egg mayonnaise?

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:13 (twenty years ago)

It tastes like an omelette sandwich! It's not complicated. Don't think of the mayo as a critical ingredient (and if you do, um, bear in mind egg salad and so on -- egg + mayo is a pretty standard combination). It probably originated as an easy to-go lunch at St Louis Chinese restaurants.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:13 (twenty years ago)

I mean, don't get me wrong, I routinely have wheat bread + fried egg + hot sauce sandwiches for breakfast, so I'm not against the concept at its heart.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:16 (twenty years ago)

My train of thought:
Wonder bread = gross.
Mayonnaise = gross.
Egg foo yung = gross.
Thus:
A food item that combines all three = ultragross.
I guess I could be wrong.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago)

I get mine without mayo, it's pretty simple.
And, while an omelette sandwich is close, it's somehow much more than that. Maybe I'm just looking for reasons why living in Missouri is good? "It's the St Paul Sandwich that keeps me here."

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Gooey butter cake! The Cardinals!

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Mmmm gooey butter cake...

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:23 (twenty years ago)

My god, this is slander
