PIPE SMOKERS ROLL CALL!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have vague memories of, back when we were in high school, Dale Panopticalis using the word "PIPE" as a Bill S. Preston Esq.-esque exclamation.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the best way to clean an 80-year old pipe? I have four that my great-grandfather used to use but they have been sitting collecting dust for a long time now.

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

mid lothian?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd like everyone to take a few moments to remember our founder, DG, he smoked a pipe...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

An old co-worker of mine used to look forward to autumn so he could sit out on his porch, prop open a well-worn Fitzgerald novel, and smoke his pipe. I have to admit, this sounds terribly romantic to me.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Or should I say, ADMITTEDLY.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

More people should smoke pipes, they both smell nice and look cool.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(How is your new job, Jaymc?)

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I think some people find it strange when I admit this because I am not male. I enjoy smoking a hookah as well. (There is a cafe in town) (It sounds romantic to me too)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

jocelyn, you continue to surprise and fascinate me.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i find pipe smokers to be extremely hot. i'll bet paul krugman, sexiest man alive, occasionally enjoys one. rowr!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Danke Schoen
adam you remind me of a friend of mine who lives near you in CA who I miss very much.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm looking good and I've been called the sexiest man alive! Now if only I had a pipe!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone who can find and post a photo of krugman with pipe wins!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Photoshoppers ahoy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

KLUGMAN.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Welcome back Nick. Did you snuggle the monkey or the pooh bear while you were sick?

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(How is your new job, Jaymc?)

It's taking some time to get used to. I've moved from a small, suburban company with a generally social atmosphere, my own office w/a window, and a Mac to a somewhat large downtown company with a VERY QUIET atmosphere, a cubicle w/fluorescent lights, and a PC. And obv. I'm still trying to "fit in" in general. Transitions are never really that easy for me. The people seem nice, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I snuggled your mom, does she count as a monkey, a pooh bear, or both?

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Also hi Adam! I was only sick on Friday. It was fun.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaymc - that is what I have done, but I wasn't at the other company long enough to notice the change.

n/a - both

xpost-hi!

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

"Sick"
nick you really just stayed at home to read Jonathan Letham, didn't you?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

hi guys.

i like pipes more in theory than in practice.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never actually smoked a pipe.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I did read most of Fortress of Solitude, yes. I also played video games. It was great!

But pipes...I've never smoked one. I've considered taking on the whole tweed jacket with elbow patches and pipe persona, but it just doesn't seem like me. Pipes smell really nice though. Why can't they make incense that smells like pipe smoke?

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i pretty much feel the same way about cigars.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I like cigars.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i do too, in theory.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i like them more in sorrow than in anger

debden, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

They're good for victory too

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you mean crack pipe? Because if you do, the answer is no.

Crack kills!

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

If I start smoking, which is unlikely, I'll smoke a pipe.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I've considered taking on the whole tweed jacket with elbow patches and pipe persona, but it just doesn't seem like me. Pipes smell really nice though.

I've actually considered doing this, too. I figure that if I'm gonna be a liberal I mightaswell dress the part.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and I have muttonchops now, so a pipe would totally be the rock!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Martha Stewart and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Sunday, 16 January 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to be into cigars, but have found myself wanting to pick up a pipe lately.

Hey, let's all help me out for my essay and find iconic pictures, paintings, representations etc of people and pipes (and NOT anything by Magritte, who the essay is on, and preferably before 1928)

http://legrt.unblog.fr/files/2007/11/sartre.jpg
Thanks!
