This is the thread where Jordan posts about his band to get it out of his system (no beatdowns pls)

Just give me this little thread and then I won't feel the urge to pollute the rest of ILX when I post new songs or play gigs in yr town, or whatever.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:40 (twenty years ago)

Ok, Jordan. In order to do this, you have to mention the name of your band.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:41 (twenty years ago)

I put up two songs at the Cleft & Cloven site, one electronic-y one and a rough mix of one with lots of horns and question spoken vocals by me.

I also plan on using this thread to have converations with myself, just fair warning.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:42 (twenty years ago)

You have a logo!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I know! I drew it in Paint on a whim and then a friend made it look pretty.

How come you don't have a logo? Or anyone, for that matter?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:49 (twenty years ago)

Well when ARE you playing in my town?

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:50 (twenty years ago)

The picture of the bass player is very nice, compostionally. (so is the one of the drummer, I guess ;))

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:52 (twenty years ago)

What's your town, Adam? Don't you live in San Francisco or something?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Berkeley. Close.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Oakland is a big jazz town, too. You'll go down well there.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:57 (twenty years ago)

so is the one of the drummer, I guess

Haha, I e-mailed the photographer from the newspaper that the picture was in to let him know that I put it up, and he just responded with "hmmm, it's very purple...but whatever".

(because I just couldn't leave it alone and fucked with the filters, you see)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:59 (twenty years ago)

One of the trombone players for my brass band (haha, see how shamelessly I link), who also did the horns for the Cleft & Cloven track, recently moved out to L.A. to be a session musician. So, it's actually likely that we'll do something out in Cali, which we've never done before.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:00 (twenty years ago)

Yay for people in bands with threads devoted to said bands!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:01 (twenty years ago)

i feel guilty for making several threads relating to my own music now.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Ha, I wouldn't have done it if you and Kate hadn't paved the way.

(x-post)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:04 (twenty years ago)

Don't!
(xpost)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:04 (twenty years ago)

I feel guiltier for just piggybacking on jaymc's thread and the Chicago threads for bragging about my band (PLAYING WEDS. AT SUBTERRANEAN, SAT. AT THE ICE FACTORY, IN MILWAUKEE ON THE 19TH AND MADISON ON THE 20TH!)

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:05 (twenty years ago)

We should take this opportunity to work through our shame issues re: band-pimping.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I should start a thread for my imaginary band.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm now definitely going to be in Madison for the gig, btw.

(x-post, do)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:07 (twenty years ago)

i was about to post a thread linking to my album that i conceived and recorded in a hour but to be honest i think Jordon has won the day with that logo.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:09 (twenty years ago)

An hour? How long is the album???

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:15 (twenty years ago)

An hour and a half, that's the weird thing.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:16 (twenty years ago)

23 minutes, 10 songs.

i made them up on the spot. i think i'd say it was about...50% successful.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:17 (twenty years ago)

Was it for a bet?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:19 (twenty years ago)

these people on another message board challenged me and then posted it on their content site. but shhhh this is your time Jordon.

I like the live picture on that website, of the upright bass player.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Maybe some other message board will barge in here and challenge us to a recording throwdown.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I like that picture too! Even if we jacked it from his other band's website. :>

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:26 (twenty years ago)

what would a recording throwdown look like?

we should have an ILX recording project where we all send bits and pieces to each other and we all add other bits until we have complete tracks.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:30 (twenty years ago)

That could have been the all-star jam (or the hidden bonus track) of the new ILX comp.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:32 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, I have a question:

Does Cleft & Cloven have HOT BEATS?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:33 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I THINK YOU KNOW.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:34 (twenty years ago)

I think there was a suggested ILX recording collaboration before but it never really went anywhere.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 22:35 (twenty years ago)

"...it's actually likely that we'll do something out in Cali..."

With LL, I gather? He's supposed to be back anytime.

andy, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 23:13 (twenty years ago)

sounds like midwest product/tiki obmar.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 23:16 (twenty years ago)

Is "Cleft & Cloven" some kind of Kosher joke???

Please say yes!

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 23:16 (twenty years ago)

i finally finished d/l-ing 'Every Day A Battle' (I'm on 56k).

I like it a lot, the horns are hypnotically awesome.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 23:43 (twenty years ago)

sounds like midwest product/tiki obmar.

I hadn't heard of either of those bands before you mentioned them, but I've gone and downloaded mp3s of both and they sound great.

Please say yes!

Among other things, yes. :>

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 03:58 (twenty years ago)

And thanks a lot, Hari. The vocals still need some toying with, I think, but I'm pretty happy with the rest.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:03 (twenty years ago)

jordan, what material did you get from both of those artists? surprised you haven't heard of them.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:22 (twenty years ago)

I got a tune called Duckpond by Midwest Product and a remix by Telefon Tel Aviv (which sounds just like TTA, but they're one of my favs so it was nice to hear), and the stuff Tiki Obmar has here.

I don't know why I wasn't familiar with the Merck label, but I've heard like four awesome bands associated with them in the last week.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:27 (twenty years ago)

definitely check out midwest product's "world series of love" and tiki obmar's "high school confidential"

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:39 (twenty years ago)

ALSO:
check this midwest product live show:

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:45 (twenty years ago)

live track, not show.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:50 (twenty years ago)

Good going, Jordon! When are we having the ILX FAPstonbury Festival?

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Can we have it in the U.S. Midwest? We have sex hours of cheese, after all.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Not in a red state, oh no. Sorry. ;-)

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Wisconsin was blue! And so were several other Midwestern states!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Well, you're all red now, suckahs, so I ain't going to the States.

FAPstonbury will clearly have to be in the UK.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Fine then, we'll have FAParoo in the U.S.. Or possibly Mid (il)x Midwest.

Cutty, today I ordered World Series of Love, High School Confidential, and a Machine Drum disc from Forced XXXposure.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:21 (twenty years ago)

In case Milwaukee is your town, which it's probably not, I'm playing there tomorrow night at the Nomad, with Mama Digdown's. Hopefully by then we'll have new New Orleans brass band versions of songs by such Jackons as Michael, Janet, 5, and LaToya.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:09 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
3x3x3 just came up in my winamp. Good stuff dude!
