Celtic Vs Rangers league Cup

With celtic playing crap and having an injury crisis I cant see anything other than an easy Rangers victory tonight at Ibrox. There is no jinx on old firm games.
Rangers are the form team and I think will probably win the treble this season due to Celtic's inactivity in the transfer market(Juninho is a waste of money).

But what do you think?

Got to love it - the bizarre surgency in Rangers fans expectations following a few wins.

O'Neill has already said Rangers will be favourites. I can't see a title for Rangers or a cup double (another team will sneak one the way Rangers have played this season).

Form vs 7 Old Firm victories in a row. It should be an interesting game tonight.

I think that I'll be resigned to reading a book while trying to ignore the yells of 'Mon the hoops' and furious noisy Pringle eating from my other half.

I thought the English League Cup was a waste of time, but God damn, the Scottish League Cup. What a blow!

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It's important Alba! That final fills a Sunday on BBC at some point in March/April so that I look at the TV, exclaiming something along the lines of "a cup final this early in the season? WTF?!". Every year.

Billy Mason sounds like a bit of a 'red rag' name, like one my sectarian ex used to make up.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Normally i'd agree Celtic are the better team but with so many injuries, the fact it's at ibrox, and uncertainty over the likes of Hartson getting a new contract , Rangers have to be firm favourites.

Remember they really deserved a draw in the game at Parkhead when the new players still hadn't had time to settle in.

I really fancy a Rangers win tonight. The league game will be a different game no matter tonights result though.

Billy Mason, Wednesday, 10 November 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Strange that someone called Billy Mason would put Celtic before Rangers in the thread title, particularly when the game's at Ibrox.

If my memory serves me correctly, "waste of money" Juninho was man of the match in the last Old Firm meeting. He's been shite ever since, mind...

I wonder if the hordes of numpties will give Marvellous Marvin Andrews a good reception tonight after his "can't we all just get along?" statements (he had the cheek to claim the Old Firm weren't mentioned in the Bible!).

As for predictions... Lennon and Petrov will boss the midfield but will play too deep in order to protect a shaky defence. Both teams will have half a dozen chances and the result will rest on who takes them. Oh, and Thompson and Ricksen will have a handbags session and will both be booked.

exclaiming something along the lines of "a cup final this early in the season? WTF?!". Every year.

yeah it's only 10 nov and it's cup final time already!!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

They are both nice cups, Alba.

It is, I think, the CIS Insurance Cup.

It's funny, I would quite like Rangers to do well.

Mind you, I would prefer Aberdeen, with their exciting youth policy which I vaguely remember hearing about at the weekend.

Where was the love for the BELL'S CUP?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

(the final was on Sunday, in case you missed it. It was a thriller!)

Thompson and Ricksen will have a handbags session and will both be booked.

Will they take a bet on how long it takes Ricksen to get his card?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish they could both lose. C'mon you Arabs.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

A Rangers fan bleating about wastes of money only needs to look at Gavin Rae, if they can find him anywhere. (add him to a long list including Seb Rozenthal, Michael Ball, Daniel Prodan, Christian Nerlinger, Tore Andre Flop etc etc etc)

Is Billy Mason Calum?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

No. Sorry if you think i'm a wind up merchant like Calum, im just a psyched up Rangers fans that is all.
No point in getting into past signing mistakes by (both) teams but I feel I have to say Wayne Biggins hehe. Juninho is a current signing. And I'm the 1st to admit Rangers signed injury prone players we shouldnt have.
Whats everyone predictions then? I think 2-0 Rangers. Feel free to mock me if i'm wrong.

Billy Mason, Wednesday, 10 November 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

ahem....... 1-0 celtic.... so far

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

oop, extra time

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

2-1 to the dirty hun

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

That was a crap game. Best team won. Although the paranoid Tim in me makes me want to blame the referee for back-heeling Celtic out of it.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha!

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 11 November 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Shame we never went to watch it together then Ally, you could have exacted revenge for the 6-2 game we watched together :)

("Tell all the Huns you know, that they'll never stop two-in-a-row, they can cheer themselves up with their Mickey Mouse cup, but they'll never stop two-in-a-row")

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 11 November 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Shit game. In the pub where I watched, the small contingent of Rangers fans there (why were they in an Irish pub full of Celtic fans one wonders? got thrown out for starting a fight - plus ca change.

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 11 November 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure the fight probably started because one of them objected to one of the Celtic fans smoking and making him cough, and his clothes smelly. After all, that seems to be the only issue in Scottish pubs that's in any way contentious.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh heh. It was in London. A Rangers fan would not go into a Celtic pub in Glasgow to watch an Old Firm game!

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

... and vice, most certainly, versa!

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

A Celtic pub wouldn't go into a Rangers fan?

That is just one of the many great tragedies of my life.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to write a dissertation on 'The Kind of Things That Make Tim Hopkins De-Lurk'.

1. Football
2. Prospect of beer
3. er...

(there was a Clientele thread on ILM recently, and he didn't even post to that!)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 11 November 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I was in a Rangers pub for the 6-2 game. I was a bit unnerving until they all left after 11 minutes and 3 goals :-)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 11 November 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean IT was a bit unnerving :-)
