Oh No, What's Wrong With Carl Barat?

He's having an operation? Good lord, I hope he's not got a tumour.

I hope he does go solo and end my shame, and make an honest woman of me, or something.

I am going to obsess about this now. Oh no.

Please say it's over. Please?

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Why do I care about this? Shoot me now!

I think they're starting rehearsal without me. More Wiiiiiiiine, please. But you can't tell me news like this and expect me not to worry.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Officially my least popular thread ever.

God, I have got to stop posting drunkenly from rehearsal. That is dangerous.

Damn, even the slash kids don't seem to be able to agree.

I am getting *way* too caught up in my "Stories" again. This is why I don't follow soap operas, I get way too involved in them. Sigh.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Thursday, 11 November 2004 11:17 (twenty years ago)

Officially my least popular thread ever.

Are you surprised, Kate?! It is about a Libertine - not really a good start...

3underscore (___), Thursday, 11 November 2004 11:24 (twenty years ago)

I think Kate is mistaking us for people who give a fuck.

change the record, Thursday, 11 November 2004 11:26 (twenty years ago)

i do have to confess that when i saw the title my response was "who cares?"...

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 11 November 2004 11:28 (twenty years ago)

But it's the BEST SOAP OPERA IN YEARS!!! It's so hard to explain this to people who actually give a fuck about music any more.

I'm still slightly concerned that *I'm* so concerned.

I actually though I started it on ILM, but ach well, it would have got less of a reaction there, no doubt. It doesn't matter, I will be nattering on about William Blake and Peter Ackroyd in about 3 posts anyway, so carry on ignoring me, la la la la laaa...

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Thursday, 11 November 2004 11:29 (twenty years ago)

I'll stand up and say "libertines"...

Umm, I found France. It's not a rewindie, just tacked on a little after "likely lads" on the album. Shows how much I've played it. ah, I had mislaid it.

So, at the moment Carl is the only member of the libertines not running a 'solo' project concurrently.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:05 (twenty years ago)

Oh, but he is. He's been writing pornography with Client. Apparently.

Oh man, oh man, how much do I want to find *that*?

Which version of "France" is that? The version I heard was just Carl, acoustic guitar and voice, and none of that awful racket in the background, and it was lovely. Made me sort of reevaluate his actual talent.

Anyway, I'm supposed to be investigating this marketing position, not gossiping about Liberty Boy.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Thursday, 11 November 2004 14:01 (twenty years ago)

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

OK, I just looked up this marketing job, and it turns out that it is located IN THE NASH COLUMNADE THAT WILLIAM BLAKE DENOUNCED AS THE WORK OF THE ANTICHRIST in Jerusalem or the Emannations of Albion or whatever it's called.

Wait, this isn't my Blake thread. Which one is my Blake Digression thread? I'm confusing myself at this point.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Thursday, 11 November 2004 14:05 (twenty years ago)

Man, that bitch has one sexy voice. Lugubrious, that is the word that would best describe it. Proper old school ac-TOR dripping treacle flavoured accent as well. Sigh.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:30 (twenty years ago)

Sounds like Carl has a sore throat then.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 16:46 (twenty years ago)

i think hes getting some sinus operation (ever heard him speak?) or a liver op (he does like to drink quite a bit). i think i bought into the soap opera so long ago i dont even realise i did it.

DVD (dickvandyke), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Sinus operation? Oh no! Please don't let it change his lugubrious speaking voice. Oh no. If anyone needs an operation on their sinuses, it's Pete, who should get an operation to stop him speaking AT ALL.

My first thought was that he probably needs his wrists expanded as all guitarists from, erm, Thurston Moore to Graham Coxon eventually seem to need done. But that could just be because I'm avoiding that one myself and projecting...

I know that it was decided that it was *not* an eye operation, that has been ruled out. Just wondered if there was any further news... I don't have the time or the energy to lurk on the official site any more.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, so now my bassist is deliberately TAUNTING ME with stories that she watched some programme on the telly with Duran Duran playing live, and the camera kept cutting to ALL FOUR OF THEM sitting together in the audience. "Are you sure Pete was there?" I asked. Yes, she was sure, though apparently he wasn't allowed to sit next to Carl. "Are you sure it wasn't a repeat that was taped months ago?!?!?!?" I demanded. "No, no, it was very much 'live'" - though really, live can mean anything, can't it?

It doesn't mean anything, as we learned from the aham-Gray oxon-Cay and ur-Blay debacle of last month. But still.

WHY AM I SO HOOKED ON THIS BLOODY SOAP OPERA?!?!?

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Saturday, 20 November 2004 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Because the Brett/Bernard slash these days would be fairly genteel.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the Brett/Bernard slash is sooooo vanilla these days they're all getting on and shit.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Sunday, 21 November 2004 16:35 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
Easily the worst thread ever.

chris sallis, Wednesday, 25 January 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

nooh, there's no cman here!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 January 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea whatsoever what or who this thread is about.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 26 January 2006 11:03 (nineteen years ago)

about brett/bernard : any news from the tears ? have they split ? (i guess i must be one of the only person on the planet to care right now !).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 26 January 2006 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

Last 'news' message on their webbie:

21 September 2005

After much deliberation the band have decided to begin work on the next album rather than embark on a long european tour. They truly regret the disappointment that this decision will inevitably cause and apologise for the confusion and inconvenience but hope that the fans can understand their desire to evolve The Tears as a creative force.

The Hammersmith date and the Spanish Wintercase tour will still go ahead.

The Spanish gigs went ahead in November. Not a peep since.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 26 January 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

heard the tears album in full in an italian restaurant in a small city in spain in august last year

why do spaniards like them?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 26 January 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i know about the cancellation of the tour, i had my ticket for paris ! last time i heard about them...
my guess is they're over and the "they have decided to make a new album" statement is just to veil that.
the album, although i like some songs on it, is pretty uninteresting. never listen to it.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 26 January 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, what is this thread about now? Brett/Bernard slash or Carlos Barat?

I have fallen woefully behind in my shameful slash crushes.

The Late Fear And The Potato Fear (kate), Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea whatsoever what or who this thread is about.

Haha, me neither. Just like with all the indie threads on ILM.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

Carlos Barat is a pirate and wrestler with a tv chat show that runs on Spanish cable, I think, Tuomas. Apparently he lost the mobility of one arm recently due to longstanding quirks in his joustling style that ultimately pinched a nerve, and this is the cause for much concern for pirate wrestling fans everywhere.

ratty, Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, okay, pirate wrestling isn't really my scene. Too much drizzling masculinity.

The Late Fear And The Potato Fear (kate), Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

Well toned isn't he? No wonder he was such a good pirate wrestler.

ratty, Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Well, here he is in sweaty pirate action:

The Late Fear And The Potato Fear (kate), Thursday, 26 January 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

I take my previous comment back, if that's what the pirate scene is like today, I'd certainly like to delve into it.
