One of these just opened up a block away from me -- this strange new Japanese phenom which has supposedly overtaken Kripy Kream as the pastry "of the moment." Curious to give'em a try, I stopped in last week to get one to go. "WELCOME TO BEARD PAPA - HELLO!!!"...screamed three alarmingly enthusiastic employees at me all at once. Disarming. So, I got one to go. Took a bite of it as I walked up towards Astor Place, only for it to basically ejaculate a thick glob of cream all over my hand and chin (making me look like more of a fool than usual). Is it possible to eat one of these without that happening? In any case, despite the mess, it was quite nice. Just brought home a box and had two in quick succession, and am now feeling positively light-headed.
What's your take on this?
