hopefully now I won't have to hear about this shit every time I turn on a "news" show. though I suppose there will be some other "interest" story to take its place.

oops (Oops), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i've always wondered how the media picks which story like this to follow when there are always so many similar stories going on across the country.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Cute victims.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Or why the news had this on for two hours the other night while we were bombing Falluja and Arafat was dying.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Finally, a bit of news that makes sense.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

a woman in my office is screaming "god bless america" over and over again at the news.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"the land of the free"

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

a woman in my office is screaming "god bless america" over and over again at the news.

how'd she react to the election?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

So why is Mark Gerragos or however you spell it such a hot shit defense lawyer? He lost the Winona one, he lost this one. Is he going to represent Michael Jackson again now that this is done? If so, I'd say goodbye to Jacko.

Hi, I am a genius. a big one. (AaronHz), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Or why the news had this on for two hours the other night while we were bombing Falluja and Arafat was dying.
Yeah, seriously.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

To be fair, Arafat wasn't very cute.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

how'd she react to the election?

she was the lone bush supporter in our office. it wasn't pretty.

she also likes ann coulter.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

you should strangle her to death with your belt.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

And then blame it on Ben Affleck.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

um, ha ha?

(she's pregnant)

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't get "Guilty" by Classix Nouveaux out of my head, now.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

So, for anyone who actually followed the case--aka not me cuz I was busy worrying about oh the rest of the freakin' world, is it likely that this verdict is going to stand up to an appeal?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just in a restaurant for lunch and they had the TV up loud, on Fox. Fox got to use this big yellow "Guilty" graphic that looked like a cross between the Blockbuster logo and the Married With Children title.

andy, Friday, 12 November 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Was it like a fake stamp?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

...and the big yellow "Innocent" graphic is quietly sliding into the trash bin on some Fox programmer's desktop, as we speak...

andy, Friday, 12 November 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

They'll save it for Michael Jackson.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I was working on this case until a few weeks ago! And thus this represents a victory for my (asshole) former employers.

adam... (nordicskilla), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam L., Celebrity Jury Consultant!!!

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Adaml, controller of FATES

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Adaml, drunk with power!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

He can BUY us our drinks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Adaml, drunk with power!

No, that's buttershots.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Well you can call him that but I'll stick with Adam.

oops (Oops), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

you know what "L" stands for, right?

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"lamb"

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, couldn't you ask the woman in your office to mind her manners? I don't care what your politics are, murder, and a man being found guilty of murder, are nothing to celebrate.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

this thing is ripe for appeal because of the suspicious and weird things that happened with the jury (one juror dismissed, the foreman apparently asked to be dismissed two days ago for some reason, I suspect he either advised the other juror to do outside research or had done it himself). But I still don't think he'll win on appeal.

all you snooty naysayers be damned, I still think this was an interesting case that had legs not just because the victim was cute, but because the suspect was so fucking sociopathic and weird.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 12 November 2004 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Rat's ass emphatically not given. This news was reported to me today by no less than THREE coworkers, none of whom would blink if the earth was invaded by sausage-wielding squid-men from the Orion nebula.

briania (briania), Friday, 12 November 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Because they would welcome their new sausage wielding, Orionese, squid-men overlords?

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 12 November 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Only if they promised to finally bring some closure to the long national OJ Simpson trauma.

briania (briania), Friday, 12 November 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The only place I heard about this today was ILX. Ergo, my workplace and everyone there is more well adjusted than you people. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 November 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

my professor launched into this random story the other day about his adolescent years in san diego... he and one of his best friends used to go to the beach all the time, but since it was a couple of miles away, they had his friend's mom jackie drive them. and yep, last week he sees jackie on tv testifying... his best friend was scott's older brother.
