they have the exact same voice. and similar looks. and admit it, you have never seen them in the same room, have you????

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the daughter was a pig.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Nor have I ever seen Alf & Chelsea Clinton in the same room ether. Hmmm.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The dad from Alf is awesome. He's one of the all-time great character actors! He was brilliant on The Norm Show!

Huk-L, Monday, 15 November 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it was certainly very charitable of him to take that....thing into his home

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

My sister always said that about Lieberman too! Weird.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, but how do you feel about him as senator? and possible candidate in '08? does harboring ALF make him a security risk?

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really see it:

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, seems like a reach -- maybe it's something similar in their demeanour.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Senator Lieberman, can you please explain this line item expense check made out to one Gordon Shumway?

Huk-L, Monday, 15 November 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I think it is the voice.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Then again I barely remember the show -- both that and Small Wonder passed me by as actual watching experiences in favor of ironic appreciation straight up.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

it is the voice.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

In that case, it totally makes sense.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

he was great in cheers, as jim the candidate opposing sammy's mayor girlfriend...

stevie (stevie), Monday, 15 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to say he had a bit part in The Man Who Wasn't There as a lawyer, maybe?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the alf-dad-dude was in a tabloid a while back--they had pictures of him picking up big black dudes off the street and smoking crack with them! and then they would get down! I'm still quite disturbed.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The pictures were the scary part. I don't need to see some dude going down on Alf's dad!

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't we have some character actors' appreciation thread? I looked, but I can't find it.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

(I did find this: 'Character Actors' you can't bear to watch anymore)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a great story about the guy who played willie tanner. a "serious actor," he apparently despised the show, the role, and probably himself. when shooting wrapped on the last episode he walked straight of the set without saying goodbye to anyone, drove off, and never spoke to anybody from the show ever again.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh. (Anyway, I guess that thread I linked to turned into an appreciation thread of sorts, so maybe that's what I'm thinking of.)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

MAX WRIGHT.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

the dad from Alf got a million dollars for the script to Molly, a movie where Elisabeth Shue "plays" (haha) a retarded girl who gets smart for a little while thanks to an operation.

m1cc1o, Monday, 15 November 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

wasn't willie tanner recently involved in some sort of sex scandal?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 15 November 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Was that a remake of Flowers for Algernon, Anthony?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 15 November 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

the alf-dad-dude was in a tabloid a while back--they had pictures of him picking up big black dudes off the street and smoking crack with them! and then they would get down! I'm still quite disturbed.

WHAT?

Max Wright was in that Norm MacDonald show for awhile. Are you sure it was this guy, teeny?

And if there were indeed pictures, well. Best you get to steppin' on that one.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 15 November 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe it was Lieberman!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 15 November 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe it was both of them together in a sick nasal toned threesome.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely, he has, at some point, played Willie Loman?

Huk-L, Monday, 15 November 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Were the ALF Tanners related to the Full House Tanners?

Huk-L, Monday, 15 November 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

http://weblogs.variety.com/outside_the_box/tanner_88_bumper_sticker-thumb.jpg

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Alf was Michelle's real father, obv.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Which means that in 1988, there were THREE Tanner families on TV.

(ALF: 1986-1990; Full House: 1987-1995; Tanner '88: 1988)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

google it! the pictures are out there!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

am i missing a joke or something? this dude is on law and order.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

he had the world by the tail people! BY THE TAIL.

still bevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. My . God.

Those pictures need to animated into a gif stat!

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Abraham Lincoln was actually Ralph Nader:

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Molly does seem like a movie somebody on crack would think up so that they could get more crack.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

damnit. I should have looked at imdb. Turns out the creator of Small Wonder wrote molly. Oh well, I bet he's on the pipe too.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

not creator, argh. the DAD from Small Wonder.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Everyone involved with that show probably turned to the pipe at some point, it's all good.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

are you on the pipe miccio?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I would have sold this board for crack by now if I was.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I should have this thing framed. I don't think a more hardcore tabloid story has ever been printed.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, my Fluid Mechanics professor from college was the ALF dad:
http://www.cheme.cornell.edu/peopleevents/faculty/olbricht/images/olbricht.gif

Ernest P. (ernestp), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki asked:
you keep a picture of your fluid mechanics professor up on a webserver?

No, I'm afraid not. But I must admit that he was the one who taught us the concept of positive suction head. Aw yeah.

(Dan? need some help here...)

Ernest P. (ernestp), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)
