Just ate my first Florida tangerine of the season and I realized happily that clementines will soon be making their annual appearance at my local Korean deli. Yessssssss.

I like the ones that are very slightly sour. Mmmm, tastes like Christmas.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 15 November 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

this will be the name of my soon to be born child, if it is female. clementine, that is.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Thus dooming her to a lifetime of having that song sung at her.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 15 November 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

better than to live out the song!

I like the sour ones too! When I worked as a lumberjack (no really), I used to stuff 'em in my pocket in the morning and they'd sort of half-freeze, and have this great slurpee-like texture, but better flavour!

Huk-L, Monday, 15 November 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If it's a boy will it be Clement?

Clementines are the best. They are the popcorn chicken of fruit.

Won't last long at my place!

briania (briania), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

no, it will be harvey.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

do the oranges have seeds?

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Rarely. Yummy with cold vodka, BTW.

briania (briania), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, you know, sometime later. Congrats, Emily.

briania (briania), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks. i accidentally bought a giant bag (20 or so) of tangerines and though they are delicious, they are seed ridden. i feel like a cretin spitting them out and there really is no mannerly way to do this. so i am hoping these oranges will be more user friendly.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Mandarins are good. I've never known them to have seeds.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

the band in my high school always sold boxes of oranges around xmas time. they were giant and delicious, though i am unsure of what kind they were. did high schools do this everywhere? do they still?

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Clementines, but OHMIGOD, SATSUMAS, THE GOD ORANGE!!!

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

clementines make my insides itch

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of them do that to me too, but most of them don't.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Satsumas are the best, Kate is right. I practically live on them at this time of year.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot get enough satsumas at the moment. I have eaten 3 in the last 10 mins! Maybe I'm just greedy!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god, I have satsumas in the bottom of my fridge that I forgot about! I love the peely skin and the little itty bitty tininess of them. But I have to eat them in sections. Joe used to eat them in one bite and then come after mine and that would upset me. No, they have to be eaten in little tiny bits.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Eating them whole is teh wrongness!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Even the dodgy market stalls in Berwick Street are selling good clementines right now. My body thanks you, clementines, for giving my vitamins for a change.

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

My breakfast this morning: Black coffee, California rolls, nicotine gum and CLEMENTINES.

Dale Panopticalis (cprek), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

What are california rolls?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Fake sushi w/ imitation crab meat

Dale Panopticalis (cprek), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

you're not selling it

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

stuffed with opium

Dale Panopticalis (cprek), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

california rolls are crab/avocado, apparently a totally westernized invention. they're usually made with fake seafood stick, not raw or really even fishy.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Crab stick!
"Crab sticks are made out of White Pollack Meat(SURIMI),mixed with different edible additions(crab extract, crab flavour, seasonins etc.) These unique crab finger shaped style have gained great popularity over the past few years all over the world. They represent low fat healthy food."

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

you know what scares me? the "seafood" salad on offer in delis all over america, consisting of huge chunks of crab stick mixed with buckets of mayonnaise and chunks of celery.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

and liberal amounts of salmonella.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm, I'm so glad I asked!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Just to say that the best brand to get right now in Brooklyn is called 'Tina.' Avoid 'Rombi' and 'Sips.' They're all from Spain. Is that part of the definition?

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the season over yet? I haven't been able to find any in the past couple of weeks in LA.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The Whole Foods near me is so poorly run. They currently have carts of clementines right in the entranceway, before you are really in the store. There's an automatic door, an entranceway, then another automatic door. The entranceway gets all of this heat in for some reason, maybe exhaust, maybe a poorly located heating duct. And when the weather is cold, cold air blows in at the same time. So anything that is stored there during the winter gets exposed to both excessive heat and excessive cold, on at least some days.

RS LaRue (rockist_scientist), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Clementines are so spotty. Even when they're in season, I get way more bad ones than good ones.

I had my first Cara Cara orange this week and it blew my mind. Not quite as good as a blood orange, but ALMOST.

C0L1N B--KETT, Tuesday, 11 January 2005 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"Here Come The Clementines"

Not to worry, that thread is called "Here comes Clementine, oh yes!" ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I've eaten somewhere in the neighborhood of A BILLIONTY TRILLION clementines over the past two weeks or so. You think I'm exaggerating.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I love clementines! But yeah, haven't seen them around this month.

Clementines are back in season! Nature's candy fruit.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, sweet sweet clementines. I rarely eat fruit, I really should get myself a bag of clementines. I find they are helpful with constipation too, although that may just be me...
