vaydar halmstad (gareth), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

1. Three months ago
2. Yes
3. Yes

Ol' Dirty Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

A supervisor - not my own supervisor - at work shouted at me for "being arrogant". Their own boss later asked them to apologise to me.

(I'm still not sure whether I deserved it or not. I wasn't upset, though.)

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't get told off. I just got sacked.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I do the telling off where I work, but happily do not need to do so very frequently.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

My telling-off was non-work related

Ol' Dirty Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

ah yes, i meant to phrase it, non-work related

vaydar halmstad (gareth), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Was this Richard Leigh telling you off for not having seen Derek Bailey and Jamie Muir play to an audience of two at the Little Theatre Club on 23 October 1968 because if you didn't then you WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT IMPROVISED MUSIC IS ABOUT I was there etc.?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

He didn't tell me off for that, he tore a strip off me

Ol' Dirty Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i havent been told off, in a long time. i was wondering about it, earlier though. i imagined i wouldnt like it very much. i wonder, if you are not told off very often, perhaps you would take it to heart more, when it comes?

vaydar halmstad (gareth), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It was terrible, it was like being 8 again

Ol' Dirty Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't been told off for a long time (except rather indirectly, by my boss, constantly) and I would definitely be very upset if it happened.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I got told off about 6 months ago. I haven't spoken to the person since and have no desire to.

king of the eyesores (papa november), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The receptionist at the doctor's surgery always tells me off. I just pretend not to notice, and they have a chuckle to each other about how thick I am for not knowing how their computer system works. PS: I haven't done anything wrong, I think it's just their way of getting through the day. I often come out wondering about it though. PPS: I'm not there as often as it sounds.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Our drummer keeps telling me off b/c I don't buy various expensive musical instruments to play with the band. The reason I don't buy these items is b/c I CAN'T AFFORD THEM. The last time he told me off abt this was last week. I think I told him to fukc off or something

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate being told off. It happens very rarely but I pride myself on staying on the right side of people and it is a big shock to the system when it does happen. I think this is all a hangover for being a horrific little shit of a teacher's pet in primary school.

The last time I was told off was three months ago. I deserved it, and I was upset. Actually, more ashamed than upset really, which is usually the desired effect of any telling off.

It's probably safe to say the feeling is mutual...

I agree. There are only two types of telling off - the one where you can't see you've done anything wrong at all which leaves you thinking that the other person must be some sort of wacko, which means it hasn't worked, and the one where the other person tells you something about yourself that you kind of already suspected but hoped wasn't true, and you feel caught bang to rights and you feel terrible about yourself.

I meet a lot of wackos.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I told someone off last night. I think I may even have put my hands on my hips at one point.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't been told off for years, this is due to being more correct than everyone all the time and thus them having no grounds on which to tell me off with.

except maybe when it's about grammar.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

A sentence ending in TWO prepositions! Wow.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

1) End of this March. A telephone blowout which continued over email.
2) Hell, no. I was just trying to tell my side of the story.
3) Yes, in fact, just thinking about it makes me a little ill.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember, I'd probably be very annoyed.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't think I have ever been told off.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

My Dad ticks me off mildly for my dissolute lifestyle on roughly a weekly basis. I'm 33.

Adam Faithless (Adam Faithless), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I do have to tell people off at work occasionally. I try to be polite about it, though.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I got told off for my songwriting/teaching songs to bandmates method the other day. I.E. I actually bother finishing songs and arranging them and everything before bringing them to rehearsal, and expecting my bandmates to actually be able to play songs at least *resembling* how they were written, rather than just bringing in fragments and standing around "jamming" until the vibe is right.

I didn't take it very well. I think I brought up references to taking my ball home. Sigh.
