ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I forgot Somerset Park (Ayr United) and Cappielow (Morton).

Since Hearts use Murrayfield for European matches, can I count that since I have seen a match there (a rugby match, though)?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Good word son.

KeithW (kmw), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean "work" of course.

KeithW (kmw), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Still no games in Scotland though! I should try more.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I did notice that, but wasn't going to say. Mind you, I've not been to any in England.

KeithW (kmw), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Gnome Park?!?!

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It's green and nasty.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you travel there in this?

KeithW (kmw), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

So much for that... I meant to post an image, but don't know how to do it:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000DZTIP.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

KeithW (kmw), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

anfield

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't but they probably do. That's a young Paul "Luggy" Sturrock. In the hat.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Mine are just a subset of Ailsa's, but I have been to Ajax stadium in Amsterdam. That was to see Bryan Adams though.

KeithW (kmw), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Keith, are you obsessed with films that no-one has heard of that feature ridiculous forms of transport (see Thunder in Paradise nonsense on the Try Glasgow More thread?)

I must rectify the fact that I have never been to Rugby Park or Almondvale/City Stadium/West Lothian Stadium/whatever it's called this week. I will never darken the doors of the Caledonian Stadium though.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Old Trafford, Carrow Road, Hendon, Harrow, Nou Camp.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

and Wembley.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha! Maybe I am. I hadn't thought of it quite like that. How worrying.

I guess I've been to Brockville* a couple of times too.

KeithW (kmw), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The Dell (Southampton's old ground - I used to live in a quiet little cul-de-sac next to it, in fact, until a year before it got knocked down - my bedroom overlooked the East Stand)
Highbury
Wembley (for the mighty '98-'99 Division One play off final between Birmingham City and Watford)

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(not in alphabetical order)

Reebok Stadium/Burnden Park (easily over a hundred times)
Villa Park
Goodison Park
Old Trafford
London Road
Vale Park
Wembley
Highfield Road
Walkers Stadium
Molineaux
Selhurst Park
Maine Road
Ibrox
St. James' Park
Prenton Park
Edgeley Park
Elland Road
The Den
Upton Park
The City Ground

...I think I'll stop there cause I can't be bothered to google anymore, but I'm sure it's at least another 10. I don't really like football, but between the ages of about 7 and 13 my Dad took me to as many Bolton games as he could, so I ended up going to the grounds of most of the teams that were in the Premier League and First Division at that time. I can't remember much about most of them, except that I liked Molineaux the best. The only ones I've been to in the last five years are Wembley, The Reebox and Ibrox the other week.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

THE METRODOME!!!!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

As I said on the other thread: Goodison, Highbury, St James's Park (Exeter), the Valley, Victoria Ground, Burnden Park, Deepdale, Selhurst Park, Prenton Park, Wembley.

Plus just about every ground in the West Cheshire League (Poulton Vics, Christleton, Ashville, Cammell Laird, Heswall, etc).

'the fan's stadium' aka kingsmeadow (AFC Wimbledon)
and some godforsaken ground in Essex, I think in Ilford, watching AFC away in some cup competition, no idea who they were playing!

all the ones in the North West Counties Division 2 league and half of the ones in Division 1. Main Road, Villa Park and Old Trafford are the only big ones I've ever been to.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Why has no-one come to wonderfull Portman Road? Hold on... Wait... Ah! maybe it's because you have to come to Ipswich first? But apart from that, it's a great "classic-style" ground.

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/europe/united_kingdom/england/eastern/ipswich_portman.jpg

Anyway, all the other grounds I've been to are Withdean 'Stadium', Molineux, Loftus Road, White Hart Lane, Highbury, Selhurst Park, Upton Park and Stamford Bridge, oh and also Wembley (which - stadiumwise - was a big disapointment. The match was great though, we won promotion against Barnsley 4-2).

I think

Repeating Kingsmeadow doesn't make it any more impressive, Matt (except to me obv)

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah...Craven Cottage.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to go to either Craven Cottage or The Valley soon, FAPM?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The Valley! Though actually Craven Cottage is like half a mile from my house, though irritatingly it still takes at least half an hour to get to as there's the small matter of the Thames in the way.

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

and you have to watch fulham, b'dum tsch, i'm here all week etcetc...

I've only been to a few...
Craven Cottage
Loftus Road
Stamford Bridge
The Abbey Stadium (Cambridge Utd)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The only one I've played at is Highbury

I think this demands an explanation.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Kingfield (Woking), variety of Isthmian League and Conference grounds in the late seventies and eighties when my Dad was reffing/linoing and I'd be running about and paying no attention whatsoever to the football, Church Road (Hayes), Wembley, Stadio "Atleti Azzurri d'Italia" (Atalanta), San Siro (both teams), Firhill. I've also been to Maine Road, but it was to see Oasis so blah to that. It's not a very impressive list, really. I tend not to travel to away matches.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard Dr C went out on the lash with Eddie McGoldrick the night before a crucial UEFA Cup tie against Sampdoria. with McGoldrick subsequently too ruined to start, Dr C stood in out of a heady mixture of guilt and nobility.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! No.

About 10 years ago I played in a team that got through to the finals of a national competition - it was for works teams and I think was sponsored by The Times and some engineering journals. I didn't even work for the company - I was a ringer because they didn't have a 'keeper. My team won through to the semis and final which were held on a weekend in june. We lost 3-2 in the semis, so just got the one match. I also broke my finger during the game.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

six months pass...
(Revived for no reason other than I came across this thread while searching for something else)

Roker Park, Sunderland
Stadium of Light, Sunderland
St James' Park, Newcastle
Feethams, Darlington
Brunton Park, Carlisle
Hillsborough, Sheffield
Maine Road, Manchester

Ashton Gate, Bristol
Home Park, Plymouth
Madejski Stadium, Reading
Plainmoor, Torquay
Kassam Stadium, Oxford
Hampden Park, Glasgow
Celtic Park, Glasgow
Ibrox, Glasgow
Firhill, Glasgow
Pittodrie, Aberdeen

I'd really like to go to the Millennium Stadium before all the play-offs/Cup Finals revert to the "new" Wembley, so c'mon, Sunderland, FA Cup and Premiership title next season please. (Or does it actually switch back next year?)

Ranking Rupert (Ranking Rupert), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

Harlow Town's ground (don't think it has a name), Upton Park, White Hart Lane, Stamford Bridge, Vicarage Road, Carrow Road, Selhurst Park (for Charlton, then Wimbledon, then Palace), Plough Lane, Old Trafford, Bootham Crescent (York), Loftus Road, San Siro (for Inter, then Milan), Highbury, Pisa's stadium in Italy (can't remember what it's called), Giants Stadium New Jersey (not really a football ground, but this was Man Utd v Milan game).

OK then, you can add Gigg Lane (for FC United, not Bury), Fratton Park, and Kingsmeadow to that.
