Retailer Misanthropy - Is there a cure?

Inspired by JaXon's post on the "Should I work in a record store" thread:

b) you start to hate people more than usual (any retail job will do this to you)

I've definitely gone through phases of utterly despising all humankind as a direct result of my retail work, and I've usually just ridden it out.

My question for my fellow retail & service industry workers is:
a) does this happen to you?
and
b) what do you do to relieve it?

Get a job in the post office.

yeah, pretty much. Dave Barry wrote about this years ago, when referring to folks down at the DMV. his comment was something like "the more you work with people, the more you hate them"

i think it has something to do with the amount of humanity you come into contact with. each person is fucked up in their own special way. exposure to too many fuck-ups in one day causes problems.

a) When I worked in an off license, yes, totally.

b) Luckily I could steal beer and drink it in the back to allieviate my anger.

It only happens every now and then, but today very much so. I have a very strong protective fug of vagueness. I suppose this justifies people treating me like a shambling retard, to an extent, because after a certain point I am one. If anybody manages to be so formidably obnoxious that The Fug is not enough, I smirk at them. I also tell myself that I'm going to sort my CV out, but then I just go home and like play Grand Theft Auto and kill the demographic that has annoyed me most. Today: the elderly
