What the Funk is this thing (possibly a fruit)?

so i come into work yesterday and the guy i work with's brother left me a "present" from his recent trip to Hawaii but with no explanation. it looks rather alien like or like a green embryo that has been splitting. it kind of looks cactus like and the dark spots are burn spots where spikes may have been before?

today i come in and touch it and it's super soft (yesteday was completely firm) and it smells like utter shit (as do my fingers that touched it)

any clues? would it have been a good eat? poison? alien?
