It started badly, but it gets better.

Too much time spent in make-up.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The new one or the old one?

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The new one! It's okay, not really rousing enough.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not remotely rousing enough, and I don't recognise half those people. I fear change.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I recogonised most of them. I hated the way there was going to be a guitar solo, and then there wasn't. I thought there would be a bit more studio based wackyness.

It just doesn't have the same 'hey, let's do the show right here!' feeling to it. And it misses a lot of the appeal of the original, which was seeing a bunch of selfish coked-up freaks finally doing something for someone else for a change. It's no surprise to Chris Martin and Damon Albarn on a charity record. They work for Oxfam, of course they care about poor Africans.

did i mention i am planning on never actually hearing this song?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

You will, Steve. Trust me.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't planning on it either, Steve. But the damn thing was on five channels at the same time! There's no escaping it.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

My mother was very confused when the same thing was on ALL FIVE channels at once - she was desperately channel-hopping trying to get away from it.

(if you haven't heard it yet - the original wasn't great. this one's *awful*)

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I just caught the last minute or so on one of the music channels - have they changed the tune? The repeating refrain at the end has a completely different note in it. Is this to accommodate the helium-soul stylings of yr Pop Idol generation?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The appearence of Dizzee was a pleasent suprise. I don't think it's a great song regardless of it's intentions and I missed the start of Neighbours because of it. It'll raise plenty of cash for charity though which is good.

Nick H (Nick H), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Thom York and Johnny Greenwood are in it!

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just not sure you can get away with pictures of the whole group watching starving children and feeling bad and then go in to Justin Darkness crotch humping his guitar on a solo while we get the infamous...

Fran Healy - Wooooo
