It was a Warner Bros cartoon about a bank robber who stole the "portable hole" invented by a little scientist guy. .. He used the portable hole to walk into banks & steal the loot & hilarity ensued, of course.

Anyone know the name of this one and/or if it's on DVD/ internets download ?

I believe it's "The Hole Idea" (the scientist was Calvin Calculus) and I'm not sure offhand where it's released, but that should help you look -- I'd bet it's on that five-disc collection WB released, on the "neither Bugs nor Daffy" disc.

Thanks .. the name helps a lot...

.. I want to see it again - i saw it recently on a big screen & noticed that beneath all the newspaper headlines about the robberies, the text of the stories were ridiculously unrelated .. but I couldn't really read them fast enough...

five years pass...

Someone told me about a cartoon that was anime-inspired maybe, about this kid in some city or something and a purple box would descend from the sky and "the game" would begin and everyone who the box landed on would have to play this game in order to survive or something? Does any of this make sense to anyone???

"At least once an episode (game session?), a purple cube crackling with electric power descends from the sky. This is a Game Cube, and in order to get into one, you must be underneath it."

(still don't know where to look, but the quote is from this page: http://www.fox-dreams.com/art/gurps/reboot/ )

You missed the clue on that page and the URL. The show is ReBoot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReBoot

i don't remember anything like that in reboot.

That was the central premise! Every time the User played a game, the heroes of Mainframe had to win, otherwise their sector would be wiped out. It started taking a backseat in the later seasons, though.

Yeah I totally watched ReBoot all the time and never remembered the mainframe/cube/etc.

The giant purple cube, crackling with lightning, sinking from a vortex in the sky with the announcement "WARNING: INCOMING GAME" was a pretty memorable image every time - It happened in pretty much every episode until the third season. If you only caught the last two seasons you probably didn't see it that much...

Didn't embed the timecode, which is 4:30

(I was a pretty big fan - it was a painful wait in the US between seasons)

Nhex, Friday, 2 July 2010 03:14 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think I really watched much of the first two.

I mean I was 6 when the show debuted.
