Have you ever met opposite sex you?

I've met this guy, who's me but a boy. It's weird, we're both similar in looks, have the exact same taste in entertainment (i.e. chorusing in unison 'Colin Mochrie, he's a genius!') and have the same vague embarrasing taste in music. I'm not unnatracted to him, but I'm not really interested in him either and was actively checking out other guys while he's around.
But, ILE, I'm scared.

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I married him. It's no wonder we mostly hate each other these days.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup, and I'm hanging onto her for dear life. It's not just me who thinks this - when a coincidental mutual friend found out we'd met and were together, he said, "well I'm not surprised - they are basically the male and female equivalent of each other!" I take this as a massive compliment.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm, yes, sadly.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know you were married, Kate.

To answer the question, yes I have, and we're best friends now. Our music tastes do differ quite a lot though, but we both have the same fanatic attitude towards music, so we have lots of fun discussing it anyway.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

if it's in the sense that she's cute and smart and likes DDR karaoke curry do retarded things etc. then yeah she exists.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup, and I'm hanging onto her for dear life

ooh have i met her?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Your forgot punctuation, Ken. When I read your post, at first I wondered what the heck is "DDR karaoke curry"?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear God no, and I pray I never do - how could this be a good thing? I hate myself enough without having a physical 'other-me' to hate. It would end in murder, I think. And to meet them and fancy them! That's a 'blinding yourself' situation.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I had an ex who at the time I thought was me in personality terms at least. I quickly found her pushy, dominating and bossy.

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

tuomas, papa november isn't kate.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Your forgot punctuation, Ken. When I read your post, at first I wondered what the heck is "DDR karaoke curry"?

No puncttuation necessary as far as I can tell - Ken is talking about an arcane dinner/entertainment hybrid popular in what was East Germany - money was tight so they had to multi-task...

And Stevem, yes of course you have, at 93.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post

Aren't I?

I think you'll find I am, just not the one you're thinking of.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

not yet

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

When I read your post, at first I wondered what the heck is "DDR karaoke curry"?

it's heaven?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The closest thing I met to a female me was last summer. She liked football and cool music and sitting in dark smokey pubs and going out dancing like twats and we had a creepily similar sense of humour. I didn't fancy her.

I reckon if I really did meet the female Matt DC we would either be together for years or it would be the most disastrous thing imaginable.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Once, maybe. Remember that scene in silence of the lambs where he tucks...nevermind.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I have met the male me, or as close to a male me I can imagine. We do look sort of similar as well, but not extremely alike. He is one of my very best friends and yes, I find some of his traits extremely obnoxious, we have been known to fight a lot about things, usually we fight viciously over the very few minor differences there are between between us.

There's a very funny Seinfeld episode where Jerry meets the female version of him and starts dating her.

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I have met people who were scarily like me in one or two aspects, but nobody who's been me all over. If I did I'd be... well, scared I suppose.

Matt and I are a lot the same I guess, in terms of values and sense of humour and the important stuff like that, but I have the feeling it's happened since we've been together rather than being pre-existing.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually Mathilda DC and myself would either circle around each other nervously for eight months or get it on immediately and then run away in a commitmentphobic panic soon after. I can't see it working.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

my older sister dated a boy once, who was supposedly just like me. Kinda creepo. I never did meet him so I couldn't confirm.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, me and her fight a lot as well. But that's okay since we both like fighting.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

STOP! Lynskey time

One of the first people I met in Stalybridge was someone called Dawn. I used to run acoustic nights in Ormskirk and I met her as she ran one up here. Then I found out that just like I spell my first name "Porl", she spells hers "Dorne". Then I find out that her last name is H-endry, and mine is H-enty. Wierd.

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Sort of.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

not really.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Sort of, or at least people find us creepily similar sometimes. She's a lot gayer than me.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The male me has the name my parents would have given me if I had been a boy!

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Nver, but just imagine:

She's a pop culture geek. I'm a pop culture geek. I'm morose, she's morbid. I'm hairy, she's Rapunzel. It'd never work.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a very funny Seinfeld episode where Jerry meets the female version of him and starts dating her.

(It's actually George who's dating the female Jerry.)

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 22 November 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually there's two female Jerry's. One that George is dating and one that Jerry gets engaged to (played by Jeneane Garafaolo) Marvellous show, that Seinfeld.

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 22 November 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

So, if everyone on ILX had to date their closest opposite, who'd end up with whom?

I would be walkin' down the aisle with Julio.

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Monday, 22 November 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

closest opposites should be on this thread?

(haha i thought it was "closet opposite" just then!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

There was one, maybe, once. She was interested, I was less so (even though I liked her greatly as a friend), but decided to date anyway because it "made sense" (we have so many things in common! etc.) I have since learned that this is a terrible reason to date someone.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Monday, 22 November 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the female me would be my ideal partner. Is that arrogant?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: (By itself, I mean. The point is, she didn't make my heart flutter.)

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't. But I HAVE met two women similar to me. I love them both dearly.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but the timing was always off for getting together. We discussed this once, briefly, and accepted it because we didn't want to hurt the other people we were dating. We remain good friends, but my heart still twinges a bit when I think about it, but I know we would have ended up killing each other.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

sick mouthy omg i think the same way!!!! shame you're a boy and i only fancy girls

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think it'd be arrogant, really.

I don't think I've ever met an opposite sex me, and if I did, I wouldn't date her (although not for lack of arrogance).

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I've met people who've thought I was their female counterpart, it was kind of suffocating.

I don't see how it's really possible - I've seen some situations where people tell themselves that so-and-so is the opposite sex version of themselves, but I think it's just wanting to make someone over in your image.

k3rry (dymaxia), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember I used to think Markelby was kind of a male me, then I realised he was actually a grumpy bald old man ;)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Lots of people with lots of different similarities, but the complete equivalent, no. My head would explode (and so would the other person's).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost and thus reaffirmed the thought?

(kiddin!!!!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I've met someone who was 60% me, but he's dead now. I doubt I will meet another one.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm not bald or a man, but apart from that fair point really!

Archel (Archel), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(you're not old either!!)

grumpy, though ;)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

by grumpy i mean not very grumpy at all

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

DDR karaoke curry =

Deutsche Demokratische Republik karaoke curry

or

Dance Dance Revolution karaoke curry?

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Not met an opposite sex me.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, I have. I have been described at various times by people who wouldn't have any way to know someone else said it as "him ... with boobs."
