Watching the funeral of Princess Diana on VHS: C or D?

I couldn't make it past the part where they interupt to let us know that Mother Theresa died as well. Bleak shit. Dud for tonight, but perhaps classic in other situations.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you cry?

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Nope.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

did the commercials seem dated yet?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of them.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, did she die?

supercub, Friday, 26 November 2004 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw it at the home of a girl who would soon dump me, so DUD by proxy.

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you watch THE WHOLE THING?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe she was taking her grief over Diana's death out on you; don't take it personally!

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: The funeral of Princess Diana vs. the funeral Mother Theresa

Snush = Snow + Slush (x Jeremy), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember coming home from work when the original one was on and being FURIOUS because they had (unbeknownst to me) postponed the final episode of hamish macbeth for it. so watching a repeat of it is clearly dud.

gem (trisk), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I never watch the whole thing. That's my style. Context is for suckers.

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember being blown away by the Tavener piece they played toward the end.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 26 November 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember we watched it all right up to the point of her disappearance into the grounds of the family mansion, and then went off and had mindblowing secs.

Thanks for that memory. (We still do, btw)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 26 November 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never watched it at all. She may have been a hero to most, but she never meant shit to me.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 26 November 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Remind me again, what are the funniest bits?

Why Does Herr Dadaismus Run Amok? (Dada), Friday, 26 November 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds really bitchy, and I don't mean it nasty. Sorry!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 26 November 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Why are you apologizing? Be nasty all you like. She never meant shit to me either.

Why Does Herr Dadaismus Run Amok? (Dada), Friday, 26 November 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It was only funny first time round

Why Does Herr Dadaismus Run Amok? (Dada), Friday, 26 November 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

... Watching the funeral of Princess Diana on VHS. Boom boom.

Why Does Herr Dadaismus Run Amok? (Dada), Friday, 26 November 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

About as dud as watching a video of static (except that might be more relevant to me).

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 26 November 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't you get it on DVD (with added extras) these days? The Archbishop's Cut or sumthin?

Why Does Herr Dadaismus Run Amok? (Dada), Friday, 26 November 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I know it's going against character, but I fully endorse being nasty to Princess Di.

He's allergic to lettuce (Mark C), Friday, 26 November 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Dadaismus OTM. VHS is dud. Even Dixons know that. Unless you have some old recording of Taggart on the tape before, and you get his ghostly apparition appearing during the funeral.

3underscore (___), Friday, 26 November 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't love diana.

i think the outpouring of grief was odd.

i don't like to see th funeral of a mother-of-two described as "funny" all the same.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 26 November 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry for being rude though, dada. i was basically trolling out of boredom.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 26 November 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

S'okay!

Why Does Herr Dadaismus Run Amok? (Dada), Friday, 26 November 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

This happened on Queer As Folk. Alex, who is now in Coronoation Street, said "ooh fast forward, let's have a look at Elton's eyebrow". It was kind of funny, if I'm remembering it right. The funeral of course wasn't funny.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 26 November 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I've ever seen so much as two seconds of Diana's funeral.

Why Does Herr Dadaismus Run Amok? (Dada), Friday, 26 November 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

how did they interrupt the VHS?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 26 November 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Only Classic if you dub a laugh track onto it.

Oh man. I wanted to do the proper Diana: Classic or Dud thing today.

I thought there would be mor media fuss these last few weeks but I have been avoiding all newspapers and not watching much TV so...

blueski, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

... which is exactly what I did after she died

Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

we've all been through the looking glass and back again so many times with this and everything that follows with it i suspect most people are are just "huh? guh" at this point.

Frogman Henry, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

well blueski they have been doing LIVE coverage on News 24 of some kind of funeral anniversary for several hours now

it was a car accident, that's what i don't get, it's not like she was shot out of the sky by rebel guerillas or something

There was an article in the Daily Express about that.

acrobat, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

i miss her.

darraghmac, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

There was once an article in the Daily Express that wasn't about that. (xp)

Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

She was 1993. It wasn't Prince Phillip that killed her, it was Britpop.

acrobat, Friday, 31 August 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

more media fuss

I think it was the lead BBC news item last night and has been prominently featured on the news for the past week (shock revelation, Diana still dead, etc). The woman in front of me on the bus this morning was reading the Mirror and they had a full transcription of the funeral. (Then she turned the page and there was a painting of Osama bin Laden and the intriguing headline TERROCHRIST, but anyway.)

Yeah so enough already.

a passing spacecadet, Friday, 31 August 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

i guess what i meant was i'm impressed that my selective media abstinence actually worked - thought Diana coverage would surely seep thru more.

blueski, Friday, 31 August 2007 11:54 (eighteen years ago)

It's not been as all-prevading as the India/Pakistan 60th Anniversary Let's Get Some Famous Asian Person (Phone Round Some Agents) To Go Back To Their Family's Village type prog/article
