Oooh

I loved the first two episodes, but haven't watched last night's yet (was at pub with scary people I don't know). Now I'm INTRIGUED.

two months pass...
I've only got round to watching this recently; I'm now bloody irritated that I didn't manage to tape the last two (partly due to the clash with "Mine All Mine"), as it's surprisingly excellent. It notably improves as we get to know the characters, and the plot becomes more intricate. Carlisle is a great character; a dour, romantic Scottish Colombo. And not a brilliant detective, which is even better. ;) I loved his speech about the 'only two times in my life when I was happy...'. I thought he was going to say the Blue Nile or Aztec Camera were playing in this epiphanic music festival 'moment' for him. ;)

I've only just realised that David Tennant, who was Carlisle in Blackpool, was the bipolar teenager in Takin' Over The Asylum (which was made over 10 years ago now - bloody hell). He is therefore, definitely one of my Favourite Actors Evah.

He used to go to school with my husband!

Takin' Over THe Asylum. What a great show that was. Knew I'd seen Tenant before. Ken Stott's finest moment too. The episode where Spike Milligan turns up (as himself) was great. UK Gold, get it together!

There's a wee bit of love for Taking Over The Asylum on this thread here -BBC to make its TV & radio archives freely available on the internet. I was kind of impressed when I found out my husband knew the bloke who played Campbell (I'm really quite easily impressed, as you can tell, as being in someone's class at school doesn't take that much talent).

I'd love to see that - TOTA; seem to remember my dad watching it, but was alack, probably too young/unaware myself. Was it shown 95-7 type time?

Tom May (Tom May), Saturday, 5 February 2005 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. It was shown at least twice; the second time was around 96-97, the first a year or two before. IMDB dates it to 1994.

Blackpool was good. Funland was even better.
