Humbug Chapter One: Why are Tree-lightings featured on the News?

Between the tourist-choked Rockefeller Center tree lighting to the White House tree lighting, why are these events considered news and featured prominently on news programs?

I mean, fuck, what a waste of air-time.

Let me take that a step further: why do people who live in areas with lots of trees come to a place without a lot of trees to look at one single tree?

"Bullshit Events" are on tv because they are planned ahead of time, making it easy for news crews to show up. Cameras aren't always around when the big stuff happens, which is why you gotta read the papers, yeah.
