Ièm on a Mac g4. I did something and now all my commas and quotation marks look like è or È. Ièm trying to write a paper and itès not happening. Help!!

Did you somehow screw with the international settings or the character pallete? Sometimes mine accidentally switches to hangul for some unknown reason involving me pressing some magic combination of keys.

It's set to Canadian english. You probably want it on U.S.

shift+'' will get you apostrophes and quotations, if you can't find a way to switch them.

All you have to do is go into international. It's in the system preferences. You'll see a link to international. Click on it and change to American English.

Also, look at the tool bar on top, next to where the clock is. Is there a flag of some sort? Some canadian sort? It'll display the flag of the country's keyboard you are using, if you have more than one language enabled.
