What the hell.

I'll post a more verbose explanation of this shortly.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 20 December 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Rad!

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

hi guys.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Crikeys.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

First and last time ILM will be on the inactive list.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

So all that stuff we posted in the intervening 17 days is lost on the other side of closed-off wormhole?

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

17 Days Later ...

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

So all that stuff we posted in the intervening 17 days is lost on the other side of closed-off wormhole?

Yep. The database became corrupted because of disk errors, and this was the earliest functioning backup. (brought on by dodgy software raid, which I've since dropped)

You should find the server is a lot more responsive now. I also have a scheme hatching to speed things up further, and nullify the performance hit that operations like searches can cause.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

At the moment things seem rather slow... any probs?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

man now I forgot all those threads were that I so desperately wanted to revive.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

so, like, the 'ILX back to mine' thread no longer exists? at all? can't be reconstituted? man, there were a lotta things i still wanted to download from those lists...

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry :(

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(anybody save it then?)

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

no apologies andrew!! without you there'd be.. like.. nothing.

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

this makes me sad for my ocean's 12 thread, which NEVER EVEN GOT A CHANCE

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It was fate.

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

What's up spankers?

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

So the thread where we wrote a script where Andrew had disappeared, Caligula-like, into a world of mirrors, ordering room service and making pornos... that's gone?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I think Jean Cocteau and Saul Bass are filming it in hell as we speak.

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Saul Bass, Tinto Brass...whatevah...

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

So the thread where we wrote a script where Andrew had disappeared, Caligula-like, into a world of mirrors, ordering room service and making pornos... that's gone?

Are you serious? FUCK

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

we'll never be able to fly with inspiration like that again. It CANNOT be recreated. It made the 'Ralf Hutter's Blind Date' screenplay look like a walk in the park.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just bewildered because I really was making pornos... uh.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

In a room full of mirrors?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

And you're not sharing? Punk.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, colin...i think i have a copy saved in gmail ;)

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

In the downtime, I have learned that the rest of the internet isn't very interesting, except for all the parts with naked girls.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I have discovered how much fun it is to pretend to be a female on forum sites.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

And be naked? And did Kyle contact you?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, is he a furry?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Your agonizer, Mister Kyle!

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle, did you meet a woman called Princess Woof? If so, I'm sorry.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

you BITCH

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't you raise your hackles at me, mister.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

LOOK! ZU ZU'S PETALS! OH, BERT, IT'S SO GREAT TO SEE YA!

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

AND YOU WANTED A HEART, AND YOU WANTED A BRAIN...!

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan got the last word in on the Elektra costume discussion! I never got to retort!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

how many days did they lose when the calenders changed from julian(?) to gregorian(?). it's like that only more (or maybe less).

props to andrew for ONLY losing 17 days 8)

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the boards seem a bit slow loading

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, especially the new answers pages. also clicking on the ile/ilm in the top right corner doesn't work for me...

(steve, have you got a thread about your end of year mix somewhere?!)

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

clicking on the ile/ilm in the top right corner doesn't work for me...

This has now been fixed. It was a bug introduced earlier today somehow after I added some unrelated optimisations.

the boards seem a bit slow loading ... especially the new answers pages.

This is an interesting issue, and something I will be looking into soon.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

The loading seems fine to me...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm so relieved that the nightclub ejaculation story will now never be archived.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The big performance bonus we should see is that searching should no longer bog down normal browsing/posting activities. Even the most ridiculous search requests shouldn't affect other users of the site (unless they too are performing ridiculous searches).

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(steve - is there an ilm thread, though? there should be. i've just got to the stefani/toxic bit and it's total genius.)

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't log in :(

I changed my email address sometime in the dody period, I guess. Now it's telling me that my name and (the new) email are in use by a registered user, but won't accept my old password or send me a new one.

Archel having login trouble, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe i'll start a thread for end-of-year mix CDs there then

xpost

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

But Steve, you lobbied so hard for its inclusion! That's it, you're out of the band!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

finally i can go off and do my experimental IDM 'B Log' project free of contractual obligations

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Have fun rotting in your laptop ghetto!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Were you the two glitchmeisters I saw swapping secrets at TekServe that time?

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Have fun rotting in your laptop ghetto!

This is my new favorite sentence anywhere.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

This year ILM crashed on a weekend
Laptop Gheto Boys go Fripper-treating

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

more tracks from Lost Threads:

"I Love Everything (but Me)"
"(This is) The Dream of Dan and Ned"
"This is the Song Where I Say..."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(I am so designing a cover for this).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Is anyone else having problems with their settings? Some of my New Answers options aren't working suddenly.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

You just got here, right, Barry? Read upthread. Andrew turned off the "unread" messages feature, which has several visible effects.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, sorry, I missed that because I couldn't remember which messages I'd read and which I hadn't, Catch 22, etc.

I'm so used to that feature!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I take it you guys are joking, but shit, if nobody minds I might actually use the name "17 Days Downtime" for an idm concept album.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Have at it!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

How about "History Load Failed"?

brianiad (briania), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Needs more emo!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 06:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I should note that this release of Spencer's would be the second album on the ILX label. Because this is the first:

The Ballad Of Poxy Fewl

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I really miss the "later"/"unread" option, it made ILX so... manageable.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess you'll just have to manage that shit inside your brain for now, Tuomas. ;)

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh i used ILX for ages without the later thing so am quite happy to do without it if it means ILX can be as zippy as it currently is

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

.. and it is.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never used the later feature, so nyah.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Archelll, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I've ticked the "mark unread" answers box twice and hit "save" in settings but it's not working - is this what Tuomas was talking about? I'm not sure I can keep up with it.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess you'll just have to manage that shit inside your brain for now, Tuomas. ;)

maybe we should shut down ilx altogether and talk to our imaginary friends in our head from now on.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean ilx is REAL?

Archelll, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe we should shut down ilx altogether and talk to our imaginary friends in our head from now on.

Look, there are plenty of message boards which do not have the lastread feature, and I've personally never used said feature, so I'm sure we can manage for a little while.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I LOVE lastread. I can survive but my nights will be very cold and lonely without lastread.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my, I can't login, reset my password or create a new account. If I'm missing a notice about this problem, my apologies.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mail() in /home/ilx/dev/stable/passwordreset.php on line 116

Dale, Thursday, 23 December 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, I'd rather have unreliable ILX than lose the last read feature. Yes, I know other messageboards don't have it, that's one of the reasons I don't read them.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Could we have an update/ETA on getting Unread Messages back? Pretty please?

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish instead of the web interface we can have an offline reader. i'd be willing to help creating this.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd rather it didn't come back at all if it's going to make ILX any slower than it currently is (i.e. NOT slow at all, hoo ray)

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

it's hard to tell though, traffic is much lower just now (possibly due to holiday seasons, possibly cos less people are using it cos that later thing isn't here)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd swap a 50% drop in speed for the return of last read and later.

(Ken's idea intrigues me)

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

At first, I bitched about not having an unread feature. Now, I just want my identity back.

Pleasant/Plains, Wednesday, 29 December 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Preface: Thank you for fixing the machine, Andrew!

Would it be an idea to have each thread on New Answers list the time the last post was added? That would do the same job as the red writing, as far as my reading habits go.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 30 December 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

????

That's always shown up on my screen, even during THE RECENT UNPLEASANTNESS.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 30 December 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Would it be an idea to have each thread on New Answers list the time the last post was added?

you can do this in Settings

Make that THE ONGOING UNPLEASANTNESS.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 30 December 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)
