Drunken Girls.

Ok, so I'm walking down the street the other night and there's a boy and a girl walking down the street, except that the girl is really truly stumbling and the guy seems fine, a truly distressing voice in the back of my head hideously screams ROHYPNOL, and yet I do nothing. Cause I don't know WHAT to do, what could be done? What would be the right questions to ask? And what's going to stop me from feeling so guilty?

Sorry Fella, excuse me please but are you going to rape that lass?

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude I've been in situations where it's TWO of us walking the drunk girl home, imagine how sketchy THAT feels. Especially when a gay dude remarks on how he would like to be in her position as you're all staggering by and you tell him to go fuck himself because you're just generally put out by the situation and you're not thinking clearly and assume he means it as some sort of insult. So it's like hey, two homophobic dudes hauling off a drunk girl, why hasn't anybody called the police?

i've wondered the same thing. see also; girl vomiting and crying in the street in front of a bar. do you offer assistance/

why does rohypnol have to be involved? you make it sound like some kind of miracle drug that turns men sober before taking advantage of drunken girls.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

What can you do, though? I think Kant fails us here.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that in most cases, the guy is probably not a date rapist. it is more likely he is her friend/boyfriend i have been in this situation with guy friends before, and they were simply helping me out, not being creeps. that said, you could ask if she is okay and try to pick up on his attitude. or if you were feeling all undercover cop about it, ask him if you could do her too.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

that's for a different kind of undercover cop

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

that's MY kind of undercover cop, dang

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Kant cannot help us with this one, but perhaps a superhero can - The Rohypnol Avenger?

RA: Excuse me son, but have you drugged this lady?
Man: Naaah! She's just pissed!
RA *pulls out long tray of test tubes, a gurney, a needle, some blood sample bootles, a monitor and a computer.* We'll soon see about that!

You know, while I know date rape/drugging people is something of an issue, I actually think it's been overblown somewhat. I say this because you see articles where the girl says something like "yeah I only had a few drinks and then I dont remember a thing" or "suddenly I was reallllly out of it". Hello, I've gone like that after one too many drinks and I know Ive never been drugged. Its called getting too drunk, because you probably didn't eat. The "I only had a few" thing doesn't always wash either, I know for a fact its easy to lose track after several if you get pissed. Ive been there, swearing blind I only had a few and being told later I had more than I realised.

I am in no way dismissing this happens, I'm sure it does. I just think too many slips of things want to excuse getting drunk because they can't judge their body's coping mechanisms for alcohol. A guy could still take advantage of a pissed girl without needing to deliverately drug her first. It is still disgusting.

I often end up walking my girlfriend home after parties when she's too drunk to walk in a straight line, so much so that it looks like I'm dragging her down the street. Plenty of people must have seen me doing this, but nobody's thought to question my motives.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

A few months back I was on my way home from a big night and had to literally drag a paralytic girl out of the gutter and take her half way across London, all the way to her house, because frankly she was shivering hugely and there was no way she was EVER going to make it back in that state (she barely registered our presence for the entire journey, right up until the point when I pushed her through her front door).

In retrospect, I should probably have sent her to a hospital, but I was pretty fucked myself. I was still worried about the Rohypnol perception, which is probably why I got another random girl waiting at the bus stop to help me take her back. This wasn't the sole reason though, I did use the hour-long trek across South London as an excuse to pull my co-helper :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing pulls the chicks like a guy who at first seems suspicious and dodgy but turns out to be really sweet and understanding.

That's, like, my whole angle.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

No one would ever think I was being abducted, cuz when I'm smashed all my friends just stand around pointing and laughing at me :(

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

nobody's thought to question my motives

But now we can! Er, wait.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: me too trayce. although one way of looking at that is that we have nicer friends than the poor girl in the above post, if her friends were pointing and laughing at her she wouldn't have been on her own waiting for good sammie matt dc to come and fish her out of the gutter.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah thats true... blimey I'd hate to think I'd be left passed out on my own in public somewhere. Then again I'd hate to think I'd ever get quite that trashed. I mean I've been *majorly drunk* before but usually in the safety of my own home.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i've fished paralytic girls out of nightclub toilets a number of times, both as a fellow patron and as a barperson, and i always find myself a bit furious at their friends. while i totally understand that occasionally it happens that you can lose track of your drinks (especially since those girly drinks came into vogue) and end up legless/out of control, my mates and i would always keep an eye on each other in that situation and make sure we all got home safe no matter what.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed. I had to rescue a friend in such a state one afternoon, she disappeared into the loos at a bar we were at and after quite some time the guys said "hey where's___?" - of course me being the only female in the group they made me go into the loo's to find her. Took a while to convince her not to go to sleep on the tiled floor and come back out and have some water.

Why do we do this shit to ourselves?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it seems like a good idea at the time to have 5 tequila shooters in a row? ;)

i was fortunate in my boozin' days to have a pretty high tolerance for alcohol so i don't think i ever got into any scary scrapes. but that was more about good luck than good management. but i agree with your statement above, i also believe there is a tendency for people to blame drink spiking when they're just overly pissed. which i think is a nuisance as it makes *real* incidences of spiking more difficult to identify.
