Snowy or just bitterly freezing?

Me want snow...

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

In Newark yesterday I believe my ears fell off.

David Allen (David Allen), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Just b.f. a slight dusting of snow Monday am. Supposed to go back up to the 50s later this week. Right now, though, it's still the savior on a saltine, i.e. fucking cold.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yesterday in dc was sort of absurdly cold. today is slightly better. also, while the heat in my office was on as always yesterday, the main building heat, for the halls and bathrooms was on the fritz. so walking to use the bathroom was EXCRUTIATING. again, today seems slightly better.

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Not as cold as yesterday...Holy balls, it was crazy, the wind...

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

-10 in NYC is what in the rest of the world?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

10 Fahrenheit is like -5 Celcius, I think.

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Todays' weather is tropical compaired to yesterday.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

once again it's: jody beth Frozen - [who is] Freezing to Death in the Nuclear Bunker !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It was about -18 Celsius in Toronto on Saturday, a lot colder with the windchill. It actually produced a neat effect (besides the frozen asses shattering, that is). Because the day before it had still been above freezing, the lake was still very warm, and when the sun picked up during the day, these sheets of mist hovering over the lake were just swirling around and intersecting. I got some video of this but in the meantime, here are some photos:

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

On a day with minus 38 windchill you went to the Beaches and took photos for a Ride album cover?
You are silly.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What can I say? Sometimes ya gotta suffer for your art. We actually went out twice...the first time we were just planning to drive up to a parking lot overlooking the lake and to just enjoy the scenery from the car, but when I saw the wacky mist, we ended up going home, re-bundling and heading back out with the video camera.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

shocker that this is not an Alex in NYC thread. the level of windy cold yesterday was beyond all reason. today it's perfectly nice though in the 20s-30s.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It was such a beautiful day!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

During the winter here, I like it best after it rains.

youn, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

where i am (on this DARKEST DAY OF THE YEAR), it's a mediocre 43 F / 6 C and (*gasp*) cloudy.

The Cult version?

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be in Chicago in two days and I don't know what to wear.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, we are wimps. Although it always seemed to me, and a friend who's lived in Chicago has verified this, that in other places it gets and stays cold so you act and dress accordingly whereas around here you don't pull out the really warm coat, hat and gloves except for maybe a few days or weeks in January/February.

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

some people I know from Montreal were even complaining about the cold here yesterday.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

once again it's: jody beth Frozen

oof, i hate that. sorry.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think NYC cold seems somehow "terrible" because it's so inconstant. As opposed to, say, Chicago, where it gets cold, and then colder, and by the time it's really truly cold it seems completely tiresome to actually point it out or complain about it.

nabiscothingy, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, exactly. My friend from Chicago actually complained about the NYC weather in the following way: "It never gets really cold enough! You're just chilled six months of the year. It's a recipe for ague."

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was so exotic to be in the snow in New York City last March... It charmed me. Will it snow again this March? NO FUN.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Night before last = 15 degrees
Last night = 34 degrees
Today = 71 and sunny. I fired up the grill and made some hamburgers. I was just telling my wife, "If I can get one day like these every month or so, I'll probably be able to get through the winter without murdering anybody."

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been sick, so I haven't been outside since Sunday night. Yuck, driving in snow.
