count the ways you are 'winding down for christmas' in your office.

i am on here, for starters but also making
regular trips to the food machine, eating a couple of tangerines
in a lengthy fashion...

...hmmm h-hmmmmm (twiddles thumbs).

Goinhome, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yesterday I came in at 11 and left at 4.
Today I spent all morning eating chocolate, then went for a boozy lunch at 12.30 and only just got back. Will probably leave at 4 again.
Leaving at about 1pm tomorrow, hopefully.
Have done no actual work since Friday.

My boss has been 'working from home' for the last three days so frankly...

Archelll, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Spent half an hour all huddled around a desk trying to figure out a puzzle cube.
Paychecks done early : )
Snacks!
Lunch with unit today.
Get to leave at 2.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

last.fm and ilx and thinking about drinking beer.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Just thinking about it Chris? Bah!

Archelll, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I presently am not wearing any shoes, and we leave for the office christmas party in two and a half hours, where we are to be blessed with, in the immortal words of Farva from Super Troopers, OPEN BAR DUDE!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be drinking it later this evening!

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

this is the busiest week of the year, winding down? you must be kidding. Add to this that I finish on Friday - yes, I'm quite stressed.

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I am winding down by writing articles for Stylus, pissing around with tracklistings for CDRs to burn, and calling Calz a prick.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

a) blatantly not doing any work, but standing around talking
b) reading ILE
c) tidying up my office, to the extent of moving all the ancient non-working PCs into the back of the warehouse
d) a "spot-the-baby-photo" competition (I'm currently in the lead, or jointly so, for both its prizes)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

By being made redundant, along with most of the office. Wahey!

rener (rener), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

By slacking although I shouldn't be
There have been choccies but they're gone
Playing Slingshot Santa
Saying 'three more sleeps!' like a child everytime I have someones attention.
Wearing antlers

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Finishing up some last e-reserve stuff this morning. After that it should be nothing but a gentle zone.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sux0r, Rener.

I am more like Cabs than like the rest of this thread - today has been superbusy and I wasn't even allowed to go for muh lunch until 3.15 (so technically it's still my lunch hour, hurrah). Tomorrow both my bosses will be off, but I suspect that'll just mean that I have to deal with stuff they'd normally take care of.

I do anticipate, however, that Xmas Eve will be a doss of almighty proportions. And it doesn't even count as a day's holiday.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Doing xmas present errands/projects for my boss.
Doing my own shopping whenever out of the office on said errands and/or lunch.
Waiting and waiting to be sent money to buy things like ink for the printer, so I can finish up other remaining work before the weekend. I suspect tomorrow will be quite busy and I may have a late night tonight, but Friday I'm only really coming in to clock the hours.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I am winding down by not being in work this week EXCEPT for Friday, which will be mad busy. And by getting some bizarre pox-like spots all over my face and neck which I'm really, really hoping are an allergic reaction to something, and not some Christmas-ruining illness I should have got as a child.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, apparently our Christmas party isn't til tomorrow. I suppose I will have to put my shoes on long enough to find some meager sustenance.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to always like coming in on the days between Christmas and New Year, because there was nothing to do and you could come in at 11 and leave at 4 and get some crucial chapters of your novel written (or whatever you were doing).

Now that I work in retail, however, I find those days not quite so restful and wish I didn't have to work them. Gah.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

We had glögg in the office yesterday! It made me a little woozy for a bit.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

glögg That's that Klingon drink, right?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This day has been so long. I keep expecting to find myself fused to the chair. And people are awfully irritable for the season, myself included. Maybe cause I am winding down but I'm still expected to work.

If we were in school we'd be bringing games in! I'll bring Mousetrap!

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm stuffing my face with homemade cookies from my manager. They are 90% butter and 10% chocolate. Mmmm.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ha, we just had a crisis meeting, oh dear, ah well, only a day and a half left

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm winding down by looking through good ol' ILX in free moments and laughing at the fact Nick still slags of NME etc and et he WRITES FOR FREE - AHAHAHAHAHAHA.

And he is the Embrace fan of the month. What a claim to fame. Go Nick!

I don't wish him nasty things, like he does me, I'm too nice - but I know full well that he is going nowhere fast. Anyone seeking adoration on a B-internet site is. I, of course, enjoy ILX for all the wrong reasons (i.e. I think it's a fun time killer and a good laugh and you guys entertain me)

C_Zar, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

My boss went home at noon last friday to go to Ireland, then our supervisor finished yesterday at noon to go to Japan, leaving us poor proles to work our asses off until Friday evening! So I'm protesting by doing as little work as possible. And, like many, spending far too much time and money at the snack machine.

Craig Gilchrist, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Friday evening Craig? That's miserable!

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I know. But I wont be working, and I'll sneak out about noon leaving my jacket on my chair and hopefully no-one will notice I've gone home.

Craig Gilchrist, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Awaiting a few measly spasms of labor, and grinning at this Yule-bash:

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Eating homemade apple cake and clementines. Other than that, it's biz as usual.

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's a fun time killer and a good laugh and you guys entertain me

Hope the train you walk into is a festive Christmas one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'ts 7pm and I'm still waiting for people in LA to answer my questions before I can go home, eurgh.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i worked non-stop until 7 pm last night, but actually finished a project, and now I'm sitting here doing jack shit. Later I'm going to go exchange something, then I'm going to come back here and do more nothing. Everyone else appears to have already gone on vacation or taken an 8hour lunch.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

As I was about to leave, the accounts office supervisor phoned me and asked, as it's Christmas, if I want to come with the accounts staff to the local Chinese restaurant for lunch tomorrow. Woo!

(I'm technically part of the accounts department, even though my work is nothing to do with theirs)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm taping hours of footage of the Holocaust for some clown in Miami who wants it delivered by Christmas Eve.

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm working super hard with extended hours and not enough time to take proper lunch or coffee breaks. Boo! I bought a big box of chocolates for my team tonight - they deserve some sort of treat for what they're being put through. It's Christmas fr'heaven's sake!]

With the way things are going I'm going to want to sleep in on Saturday!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

No work = no office and no horrible xmas parties. I win!

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

My english boss just forced us all to drink Advocaat which was ok.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 23 December 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

What is Advocaat? Do I want to know?

My pager has been going off around the clock for 6 weeks- I can't wait for this to be over. The sucky thing about working with people in Europe & JP & the US is that there is no time when my pager might not go off. AARRGGHH. Perhaps on the 26th I'll light it on fire.

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 23 December 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Advocaat = Dutch, egg-based alcohol.

I won both prizes our office baby photo competition - well, me and the Office Crush were joint winners of the main prize, and I won the other prize myself. Therefore, I've promised to go out and buy cake for everyone with my winnings.

Most of today I spent a) standing around talking to the Office Crush b) dismantling decade-old PCs just for the hell of it.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Somebody just put "One More Time" on loud!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)
