Help with starting my own dinky website

I want to have my very own dinky website. I plan to display some of my photographs (jpegs), have a diary/bbs type thing and maybe some links.

Does anyone have any advice for how to do this? I really have no idea. Can I make the webpage using Word or other software and then upload it to some free host?
Or... something... like... that...

Thanks

I can do this for you for $5000

That's tempting.

Yeah, what a jerk! I'll do it for $4500.

I hate graphic designers and their ilk.

One day you all will get yours.

I don't like the idea of a 'dinky website'. The internet - nay, the world - needs less 'dinky' things.

I'd be happy to make a robust website if I had the time or expertise.

As it stands, I just want to have a space to show my pictures to family and friends and have a diary/bbs.

Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions?

Gawd, ILX can be so infuriating.

Somebody should really answer this question with some degree of seriousness.

(I'm drunk, so I can't actually help right now.)

I'll do it for $4,499. $200 dollars for the hosting, $200 for labour, and $4299 for various application programming expenses.

I had a joke but no good answer. It sounds to be like you could do this most easily by using some pre-existing blog or web-space service -- design templates all ready to go, and nothing else really necessary.

Seriously, I can help you. Send an email to yb@dantecubed.com and I'll see what I can do.

And it should be free.

blogger is now so scaled down that pretty much anyone can use it without knowing a single thing about html, it should suffice, I think.

Does Blogger do free image hosting now? Yes or no, you can sign up for something like it, and then use any one of several free image hosting sites like, erm, photobucket?

Try bravenet. It's better than it used to be.

You can, but may the rabid badgers bite you if you do. There are a good few free programs that'll help you design your page, or if you're feeling adventurous you could use a simple text-editor and teach yourself some HTML...

I meant to cut out the "other software" part there, of course.

Even Dreamweaver's easy enough to use with little to no html knowledge, I know some people spit upon it but I find it speeds up coding for me.

I just up and taught myself html one day. Picking up Dreamweaver was super-easy.
