Power tripping dickholes.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 23 December 2004 19:41 (twenty years ago)

I like how they put the smackdown on idiots.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Wait -- what's "twop"?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago)

Television Without Pity

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago)

I went to a Buffytwopcon like a year or 2 ago, because I had no tv and needed to see Buffy. Those people are so domesticated. I got cake and prizes.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:15 (twenty years ago)

At one point in my life, that site was my main way of keeping up with Dawson's Creek -- I didn't even have to watch the show!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:15 (twenty years ago)

No kidding, when it was Mighty Big TV I got hooked on it while temping. It was like watching Tv while being at work.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:16 (twenty years ago)

My friend Nikki discovered that a TWOP writer lived in her building because the writer made references to a crazy old neighbor who lived on the floor between them!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:17 (twenty years ago)

I also like the sister site Fametracker.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:18 (twenty years ago)

Those fameaudits are the best thing about the site. The forums on there are good for keeping up with gossip though.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Thursday, 23 December 2004 20:19 (twenty years ago)

For people with alleged senses of humors, they're a bunch of fascist goatsuckers.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Ha, what sort of trouble did you run into?

I post on several of the forums there and some of the people can be so fucking smug.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:18 (twenty years ago)

Ego-drenched hosebeast heavyhanded dictatorial martinets.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:21 (twenty years ago)

I asked for people to point me to articles that outline how JJ Abrams & Co. write episodes of Alias because the typical academic avenues have not yielded much fruit. And so I get tagged with my THIRD WARNING. "Not my personal research library" my aunt fanny. Have you tried looking for these articles yourself, R3g!n@? It's not like I was asking anyone to link directly to them, you jerk.

I'm running out of names to call those too-big-for-their-britches, inch-given-mile-taking, insular, authority-abusing, back-patting self-satisfied cliqued-out looking for an excuse to exercise their mod privileges, Dave Matthews listening twits.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:32 (twenty years ago)

I thought that first post said "Powder dripping dickholes."

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:49 (twenty years ago)

You forgot "scab-scratching Twinkie-eating palm-sweating crotch-chafing walleyes."

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to try to get work done, Dave, you can keep up with the insults in my stead.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:56 (twenty years ago)

LINK

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 23 December 2004 22:20 (twenty years ago)

hahaha i immediately knew who started this thread without having to look.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 23 December 2004 22:23 (twenty years ago)

I tried to find the post but couldn't ("Alias in the Media" thread?).

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 22:25 (twenty years ago)

I posted it to the "Alias in the Media" thread, but the lovely moderator deleted it. However, the warning message: "Do your own work, please. This site isn't your own personal research library. Go to a real library or, better yet, do a Google search and find the information you're looking for yourself."

Did I bring this upon myself, or did the mod overreact?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 23 December 2004 23:13 (twenty years ago)

The mod clearly overreacted.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 23:29 (twenty years ago)

I looooooooove Wing and Glark's moderation. Banning posters who respond to trolls! God, sometimes I wish we could do this on ILX

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 24 December 2004 03:14 (twenty years ago)

I miss the Hissyfit boards sometimes.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 24 December 2004 03:16 (twenty years ago)

God. I know mods that are this overreactive with their own forums, but they exist in the Duran fan forum sphere. I thought that kind of hypersensitivity was just relegated to the L!z4r|] K!n9 site. My apologies to you, Mr. Leee.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 24 December 2004 07:03 (twenty years ago)

I almost stopped watching 'Lost' because of those fic-loving tardnuts.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 24 December 2004 07:11 (twenty years ago)

"fic-loving" -- Good one, Michael!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 24 December 2004 22:00 (twenty years ago)

hahaha i immediately knew who started this thread without having to look.

Haha me too!

I read the twop boards (mostly for Amazing Race, but I will occasionally look at the other boards as well), but so many of those people could really use a healthy dose of reality. Too much smug self satisfaction (yes even compared with ilx ha ha!).

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Saturday, 25 December 2004 01:23 (twenty years ago)

re: 'not my personal research library'

I would've thought that was one of the primary functions of any forum - to be a research library for each participant - apart fom the other almost as important function of smoothing the passage of a dull day with idle banter.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 26 December 2004 22:02 (twenty years ago)

To be fair, though, they helped me keep up to speed during 'Kingdom Hospital' - now that's a show that needs a recap.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Sunday, 26 December 2004 23:07 (twenty years ago)

You should have said that you went to a real library but the Alias section is so popular the books you're after are never in, and the JJ Abrams wing is still being built. Subject-specific forums on the internet are far more obvious places to look for that sort of info than libraries, surely.

lupine lupin (lupinelupin), Sunday, 26 December 2004 23:15 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
Let's talk about how fuckin' weird TWoP is.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 2 May 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Haha what did they do now???

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

They stole my lunch money and left me for dead.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

I have to admit that I am often amused when people break down the strategies of people on shows like The Amazing Race as if there's a formula to the show.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

The TWoP American Idol recaps are A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

Aaron (former Sopranos recapper) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> whoever the person who did the last season of The Sopranos recaps was

that is all I know about TWOP

W i l l (common_person), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

The recaps are frequently excellent but the forums themselves tend to be... parochial.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm mostly talking about the forums, though some of the recaps as well.

People who get obsessed with television are just so...weird. Some of the hatred they have for characters borders on insanity.

And once the loonies take over a particular forum and the rational people clear out, they become so convinced that they are the majority and that no one in the world could possibly disagree with them.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Mostly I have the need to vent because you aren't allowed to "talk about the boards on the boards" there. Which means that basically you can't inform people that they aren't the majority or that they're being mass bullies without getting banned.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

ILX needs a no talking about the boards on the boards policy.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

W!ng Chun looks kinda freakish in real life.

I agree that it's kinda scary to be obsessed with TV that much.

sugarpants: new and improved! (sugarpants), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

AARGHGHGH I browsed through a TWOP forum thread and now I am angry again!!

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:12 (nineteen years ago)

five years pass...

If the spirited defenses of a charismatic homophobe isn't enough to inspire loathing, then the endless ridicule of a deaf guy struggling and crying through a challenge (ridicule that includes speculation that he might be developmentally disabled)... stay classy you miserable wads.

farting in the shower - C/D (Leee), Saturday, 2 April 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

heroes of the web 1.0 are falling

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:04 (eleven years ago)

Damn you, Berlanti!

polyphonic, Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:24 (eleven years ago)

TWOP recaps are batshit insane in retrospect (14 pages of text for a 42-minute show!) but still so much better than what the AVClub does in the same space.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:41 (eleven years ago)

ya i hate recaps but back then they seemed pretty novel and weird

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:43 (eleven years ago)

mercy killing let's be real

Nhex, Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:47 (eleven years ago)

Both were founded in the Web 1.0 era

What an odd detail to include

President Frankenstein (kingfish), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:58 (eleven years ago)

makes sense; they were really relics from that time

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 27 March 2014 17:22 (eleven years ago)

I guess I've just never seen it expressed that way

President Frankenstein (kingfish), Thursday, 27 March 2014 18:19 (eleven years ago)

and now it's too late
