I would imagine that those emails are sent out in order to dupe bayesian spam filters into believing that mail coming from that address is not spam, through the use of words that aren't associated with spam. Once they've got your filter duped, then they can spam you big time.

It is a filter evader, yeah. There's bugger all one can do to filter a lot of spam when it addresses you directly and uses the kind of subject headers you'd expect from real email. I have one address now so inundated I've lost a couple of real mails in my overzealous trashing.
