My god, being at work on Christmas eve sucks

doesn't it? Especially when the majority of other employees have taken today off, so the place is like a ghost town. Rooms and corridors dark, car park extremely under-populated... it's... eerie.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It's cool and chilled...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 24 December 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, I'm leaving just before dinner, so I'm not really drawn to actually doing any work, I'm just killing time until I leave...

My basic plan today is

1. Get into work
2. Make it look like I'm doing something for the benefit of the four other people in the building
3. Grab a shower
4. Leave

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

We're still getting silly arses calling up with questions about their companies. Still we're shutting at 3 so there's not that long to go.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 24 December 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

we finish around midday, but still to go is my leaving presentation and the small matter of moving a couple of million sausage rolls around the country

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick wtf is that?!

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm here until lunchtime!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the Merry Wobbs creature!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

But of course.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a hive of activity in here - lots of last minute dvd copying and polishing off the leftover booze from the Christmas party.
If you watch for long enough you might see someone working...

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

b@stards

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I could leave now I reckon, nobody would know. Only prob is I'm meeting my boss in the pub round the corner at 12.30!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

The same here. We're all going home at 3, and the boss has ust gone down to Maccie Ds to get us all breakfast. Big Tasty on it's way! Ha ha!

I've read Friday's Straight Dope, I've read all the music blogs, and I've run some reports. NO-ONE else in the electricity industry is working today, so we're just ambling along surfing the net and pretending to look busy. I wish it could be Christmas Eve every day.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

The sudden resignation of our MD plus the fact that his deputy and the head of our department are on holiday means Louise from Production is in charge which means: sherry at your desk at 10am and everyone in the pub by 12:30pm.

This just about makes up for the Saturday service on the buses which meant no X68 this morning = two buses in, 70p's worth of potential mince pie gone forever.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

everyone wants sausage rolls and pastry :o(

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I could also leave, I guess, but I'm driving to my girlfriends' parents and there'll be nobody there until three. I wondering whether to just go to the pub or not now, but I'm guessing that Cambridge will be packed and I have no desire to mess about with Lions Yard

(xpost)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm gonna go home and make mince pies today. It'll be fun.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah! Half the workforce is on holiday and the rest called in sick. And I don't go home till 4:30pm. I'm so bored!

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Cambridge will indeed be packed! Steer clear of Lions Yard, but opt for the round church car park, far easier! Get thee to a pub!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I am eating chcolate hob nobs and thinking about Ludacris.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that the one near the Maypole, Pink?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's okay y'all, drink coffe and surf the net. Or tell your boss to go and bring you festive goodies.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

X-post
Yup! Shame you're driving though otherwise you could have popped into the Maypole for a nutty ernest cocktail! mmmm heaven! I can't wait to get home to while away the afternoon drinking white russians!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, the X68. Nostalgia...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

How I envy you. (xpost)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

doesn't it? Especially when the majority of other employees have taken today off, so the place is like a ghost town. Rooms and corridors dark, car park extremely under-populated...

This is the exact reason why i CHOSE to go to work today.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

some peace, at last!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 24 December 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken otm. Cabs, I have some spare pastry if that'd take a load off. Oh, and I have you and Vicky's Xmas gift in my bag, though I guess you won't get it for a while :(

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

There is that aspect, but it's freaky and strange and I want to run around the building looking for who's actually in, and staring at the curious darkened rooms, which pretty much puts me off any real work

x-post

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

How I envy you.
You could come round, but I fear you may never make that drive!!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just remembered, I do actually need to do some work!!! damnit!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

You could come round, but I fear you may never make that drive!!!

Aww, thanks. However, I have a schedule, and I must stick to it. Socialising is the enemy. I need steely determination. Eye of the tiger. Eye of the tiger.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

There is that aspect, but it's freaky and strange and I want to run around the building looking for who's actually in, and staring at the curious darkened rooms

but on the upside, if you find a fellow lonely hott colleague you get to have office sexx0r with them at one of the darkened vacant rooms.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I am at work until 12.30 ish because it's the only place I can get some peace from my in-laws who arrived yesterday and have been noisily trying my patience ever since. My wife's family all SHOUT at each other all the time, you see. My sisters will come later on, and my sister in law and her brother. Oh lord. Booze is the only hope of salvation.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the spirit (ho, ho) tissp!!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Comisserations, Dr C.

should that have 2 'm's? 1 s? It looks wrong, but all the other spellings I tried looked worse.

Anyway, I'm here 'till abt 1pm, coz all the old folks need their paraffin. I'm kind of bored, though the alternative wd be being at home w/the little fellow's adhd being multiplied x 100 by impending xmas, so it's not too bad really.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I found out yesterday that I can take a half-day today, so it's off to the pub we go at midday. Ho ho ho!

Hope that you all make the best of whatever the Yule season brings, and that 2005 is a peach.

Bill A, Friday, 24 December 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep getting CCed on every MGM-related email that goes round but I've managed to shrug off every one so far as Someone Else's Problem. I've answered one minor query on a Bond VAM. I delivered another chunk of the top-secret hush-hush UIP project yesterday to the usual wall of indifference from the client so I'm not budging on that. I might make a round of tea. 82 minutes to go.

(Dr C goes to work seeking peace; I go to work seeking warmth - our central heating died five days ago. Fortunately it's continuously 80F in here thanks to bad placement of desks wrt a/c and servers spilling out of the server room, so I can store up the heat in my ruddy face until I get home).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Pash - 2 m's 1 s, isn't it? Commiserations. That looks about right.

Me, I'm doing laundry and working on mammoth (as in mammoth) end-of-year singles piece. However, this does involve me realising just how lovely V really are, which is nice.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe I'm having a mare on my last day - at least I'm not stressing about it

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

oh that's a point! i might have a shower at the work shower before i go home. the water pressure here pwns the one at home.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

oh that's a point! i might have a shower at the work shower before i go home. the water pressure here pwns the one at home.

Identical situation here

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha half the people at work today in my office are blood relatives, which would make going to the pub a sorta practice run for tomorrow.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Half the people in my office are blood donors and the rest are Blood Sausage.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

mine = bloody idiots

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

(currenttly making my way through the Unending Cup of Milkshake)

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

And The Big Tasty is presumably full of...blood?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

No such fast food nonsense for me. A sensible tesco sandwich will keep me on the straight and narrow. Eye of the tiger.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha half the people at work today in my office are blood relatives, which would make going to the pub a sorta practice run for tomorrow.

ok mark no looking for work colleague for officce sexx0r in the darkened rooms, please.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

No blood in my big tasty, just spherical cow meat coated with msg and seseme seeds, yum yum!

having with sex0r with other bored Xmas Evers is way too good diea to waste on idle thought. I can't cos I've got the worst bedhead in the world ever - I leave it to you chaps to do the dirty.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, that's it, I'm going. Have a good Xmas everybody!

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

still no sign of presentation :o(

I may never get out of here

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm off home now. Have a great Christmas everybody. Don't forget to hang your stockings up.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I just got in to work after some last-minute morning shopping. I'm listening to rap on internet radio and basically faffing. I've got stuff to do but that mostly includes invoicing for my week's salary and carrying stuff from room to room which will take up about 1/2 hour of my time. No one's in the LA office today so I can leave whenever I want, huzzah!

sgs (sgs), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm off in a bit! have a good one!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

well, presentation done, excruciating as ever, may go home for a pint of whisky.

Merry Wobs everyone

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay for Porkpie.

Who else is left in work hell? Are we all basically goofing off now? I've been burbling along at 5% productivity since 11. Even my colleagues who are doing something worthwhile are working on Pete & Dud, which is essentially a gift from Subtitling Santa.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still here, but hoping for a lunchtime dismissal, after which I'll dally over to Sgs's office, eat some reheated curry, and return home arm in arm to make my mum her compilation CD.

However, I was doing some fairly deep and proper work only 10 minutes ago.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still here, but not for long.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not doing anything yet.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I just got to work. I should be here until 1:00 pm, but it'll probably be more like 12:30 (not like anyone will be here by then anyway). It's not so bad actually, it's nice and quiet, I've got my coffee and bagel sandwich...I wish every day was like this.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet, I got all the shopping done except one last one for my brother. I have the fear, a flagship music store on Christmas Eve.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually thing are reasonably quiet/busy in Boots and suchlike. I'd avoid the classic last min prezzie places, like CD shops and so.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

One of my co-workers is now sobbing at her desk because our manager wouldn't let her go home early.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Got in about 20 minutes ago. I intend to kill as much time online today as humanly possible, because the downtime-to-customer ratio increases increases every year here.

Shit.

I just realized I forgot to buy a card for someone. Not sure I have time to get one after work.

It's for my girlfriend. Yes, I suck. (She's getting lots of nice prezzies from me, though.)

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm at home now, and relaxing with a sherry, oh hold on no, tidying

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know that I've ever got my girlfriend a card to accompany gifts. Huh.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

it's nice and quiet, I've got my coffee and bagel sandwich...I wish every day was like this.

This is me too, except I have egg and cheese on a roll instead of a bagel.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just made my mum a "classic hiphop" compilation CD for Xmas. She requested I put something together for her, and after having discovered DIDO in her collection the other day (she swore blind it wasn't hers, hmm) I thought her horizons could do with broadening.

Also, I get to listen to it as Xmas day starts to drag.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Rolls are nice too. I had egg, cheese, and turkey sausage on mine. I wanted a sesame or a poppy bagel, but they were out so I got plain.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 24 December 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmmmmmmmm, who could I buy a keyboard for this year.
