Someone help me ...
I'm stuck here for another week.

Help!

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Go visit Fresno hahahaha.

No just kidding. Can you drive to Vegas? Really that part of CA is monumentally awful and dull and I've never stuck around long enough to find out if there was anything good there.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

DRIVE TO MAGIC MOUNTAIN.

still bevens (bscrubbins), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I lived here for 18 years before I escaped and I can assure that there really ISN'T anything good here.

I can't actually drive anywhere, though, since I don't have a car (which is a crippling disability around here).

I hate this place so much.
Also, Fresno. ha. ha.

ha.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

COA-LIN-GA!
COA-LIN-GA!
COA-LIN-GA!
COA-LIN-GA!

(well, give Buck Owens some credit though re: Bakersfield. There are far worse central CA valley cities... maybe)

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"well, give Buck Owens some credit though re: Bakersfield. There are far worse central CA valley cities... maybe"

That's kind of like saying that there are worse Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals than Cats, I'll concede that it may be true, but why in GOD'S NAME would I want to find out for sure?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

like visalia?

yeah, um ...
that doesn't make it any better.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Go up to Stanislaus county and smoke pot with Grandaddy.

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

taft, maricopa. it really could be worse.

isnt there shitloads of meth in bakersfield?

still bevens (bscrubbins), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

(the Six Flags recommendation was the best advice.. I'm just digging now.)

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't go anywhere!!!!

the whole car thing is a pisser.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a shitload of meth in all of those counties (San Bernadino, Riverside, etc.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

it wouldn't suprise me if bakersfield were a meth town
I mean
people need some kind of distraction to forget they live here

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

all RED counties mind you. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

no car? ack.

can you walk no more than 5 miles to a best buy or major outlet store and try and pick up a date?

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah my father is a racist hardcore republican who watches fox news all day

the fox news banner things are literally BURNT INTO our TV.

I want to cry sometimes when I notice it.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha
pick up a date at a bix box store
hahahahahahahah

the sad thing is I bet that's how people do it here.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

There's GOT to be some form of public transportation that will take you around, right? (*cries* this is Bakersfield. I keep forgetting.)

(My red county comment was meant jokingly as a tenuous connection to the meth production, that's all. Didn't mean to imply your folks are hardcore republicans)

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

oh I know you didn't
but they are
: (

oh and we have the lovely "GET BUS" which comes by every two hours and has completely useless routes. Even if the system didn't suck, I can't think of anywhere I'd want to go.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

no good places for breakfast at least? Sometimes an obliteratingly great, huge breakfast can brighten an otherwise dull day.

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a very good friend who has to go to Bakersfield for the holidays, and her mom always makes spaghetti.. the secret ingredient in her spaghetti sauce? V8. She's never liked any red sauce since.

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

go to popcap, zone, or dexterity, or some online gaming site, and go to town. if you have access to the internet.

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

the lovely "GET BUS" which comes by every two hours and has completely useless routes. Even if the system didn't suck, I can't think of anywhere I'd want to go

why don't you get on the bus and see where it goes? get off somewhere you haven't been.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

There's GOT to be some great thrift store action in Bakersfield.. perhaps off one of these GET BUS stops. You can kill two hours in an area of thrift stores pretty easily, especially if you can get a bite to eat in the meantime.

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

well I can't actually get to any restaurants, but there ARE good places to eat around town
a lot of them

but you can't walk to them from here, so ...

and there is no reason to take the bus to some random place because I've been all over this town. I did grow up here, after all.

I'm not a big gamer, though.
I guess I'll sit here maybe work on my hl2 map or something.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

hm, there might be
but I honestly wouldn't have a clue where any thrift stores would be.

wait, scratch that. there's a goodwill like down the road from my house. I could theoretically even walk there (there might be sidewalks out that way ... maybe).

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Metal Machine Music will be sitting right there in mint condition by the rusted baby doll cadavers and lavender sewing machines. "99 cents".

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Get some Basque food at Wool Growers on E 19th St. and then hit the thrift shops.

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.woolgrowers.net/ is the URL

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Dagny's Coffee on 20th St. is a pretty good hang out also if you want to get away.

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

oh I love the basque food in town
I've never been to dagny's though

of course the problem of transportation still rears it's ugly head
my parents live in southwest bakersfield
hella far from downtown

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess you should just kill yourself.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah
I'll kill myself instead of trudging through a week here and then going back to civilization

I'm off to slit my wrists

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe you could make a Greyhound pilgrimage to Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa's hometown of Lancaster.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHAHAHAHAHA lancaster
so bad

no, I've been before

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Lancaster? Zappa and Von Vliet's hometown? No wonder they were fucked up.

(Lancaster and Palmdale are high desert hell.. two excellent examples of places worse than Bakersfield)

donut christ (donut), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I can sympathize, because I lived in the Imperial Valley from ages 4-12.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

My idea of entertainment in those days would be riding my bike to the Circle K to play Donkey Kong.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.westcoastroads.com/california/images008/i-008_eb_exit_118_06.jpg

ah, the memories...

o. nate (onate), Monday, 27 December 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Doesn't Buck Owens play every Saturday night at the Crystal Pistol or whatever it's called? Well, there's an evening well spent.

andy, Tuesday, 28 December 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

my grandpa knew buck owens
he also fucked his wife

oops.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

go to any local bar and you're bound to end up drinking with a member of Korn or Adema

chaki in charge (chaki), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

jonathan davis (donut), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha ha
way to rub in the awful musical heritage of this place
and those terrible bastards don't ever come back here either.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Thursday, 30 December 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you take a bus to visit the Qupe Winery in Santa Barbara?

youn, Thursday, 30 December 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

db is not kidding about thrift store shopping in bakersfield. it's an actual reason to visit there.

(Jon L), Thursday, 30 December 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

wait
so where are all the thrift stores, then?
I honestly have NO idea where they'd be.

also, no. I can't get out of town, I'm only here for less than a week now.

LORD OF ALL THINGS HOMOELECTRONIC (trigonalmayhem), Thursday, 30 December 2004 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, again you could be in Barstow. Or Ludlow. Or Blythe. Or Coalinga. Or Susanville. Or somewhere off ZZYZX Rd.

donut christ (donut), Thursday, 30 December 2004 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)
