New Years Eve: It's that (dreaded?) time of year again

Never, since going to bed at 11:30 at my parents house when i was about 13/14 have i had any kind of new years eve that couldn't be discribed as a nightmare.

im dreading this years. I totally planned to do the sensible thing and hole up in my room with some music and dvds but i have to go out this year (for girl related reasons).

Who else has bad experience tales and feelings of dread?

I'm babysitting + I always go to bed at 11.30pm + I'm missing the pinefox in glasgow gazkia mendieta goddamn.

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i would trade places with you in a nanosecond.

im glad i arranged a taxi so at least i dont have to stay sober to drive.

apparently i have to dress up though. If the yearly humilation that always manages to foist itself upon me wasn't enough without looking flatout silly.

I'm going round to a friends house so we can possibly get drunk, listen to tunes and try and imagine the amount of people not enjoying themselves at the Edinburgh street party. Small gatherings are a lot better than huge, you must enjoy yourself at all cost, gatherings for me.

i was thinking about staying at home and playing scrabble against myself. but i guess i'll go out.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

cruelly, the television schedule is woeful at best.

Watch strictly come dancing woman reporting on other peoples drunken "fun" for about 40 minutes, Jools Hollands 'top yourself tonight' Hootenanny.

no idea bout ITV, channel 4 or 5 but im betting on list shows with the same only talking heads.

i'm going to visit my parents at their holiday cottage on a remote beach in south western australia. i plan to be asleep by 10pm. i have never ever gone out on new years eve and enjoyed it, it is invariably fucking expensive and it is always impossible to get home. yuk. if i stay in the city next year i reckon i'll be saying happy new year to my friends at the beach at 7:30pm while the sun sets, then going home to bed.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i've got multiple options for, like, the first time ever, so i'm not sure if i should stick with my family, take the first invitation given because to do otherwise would be rude, or actually consider all of them to figure out what i'd like to do best.

Maria (Maria), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to New York City with a corny proggo and an indie babe. I don't know what we're going to get into.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably a threesome.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

JOKES

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I stayed in watching the Jools Hootenanny one year, everyone was just lying round smashed and someone was like 'Hmm, it's like 12:07' and someone else was like 'Oh yeah'. Bit Drunken Bakers.

This year I'm going to go to a CLUB for the first time ever on New Year's. It's open 10pm-10am and I'm in work at 8:30am. I'm not sure what takes precedence, the fact that NYE almost always ends in blackest alcoholic dread, or the fact that when I go to a club with work the next day I always have a surprisingly good night and feel fine in the morning.

Ferg, Ah (Ferg), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm partying at an old friend's place - I'm sure I'll have a good night, but there will be a twinge of loneliness at the big second, when I am no one's first choice for a hug and kiss.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

There's some huge party in downtown L.A. that I'm considering. They're blocking off streets and will have Oakenfold, Digweed, Mark Farina, The Killers etc etc. I might finally use Metro Rail as it will be running all night...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i wanted to go to Glasgow, but it is not to be.

going to a Carribean-themed house party instead...

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm never going to a club night on New Years Eve ever again hopefully (unless it's in a different part of the country/world to where I'm usually at - which Glasgow would've been).

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you familiar with the delights of Lord Kitchener?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate this time of year, feel so pressurised to do something.

Kev's sister wants us to go out with them to Jumpin' Jacks.... no chance. My friends wants us to join them wandering around Glasgow in the drizzle from pub to pub, but we're not really into that. It's pissing me off - so many folk have told me I'm boring for not wanting to go out this Hogmanay, but neither of us fancy it, weather's crap, too busy and too expensive. Probably go for a meal then stay in with Jacquie Bird.

Why do I feel compelled to lie and say I'm doing something DEAD exciting?

Rumpty Pum pum pum, Wednesday, 29 December 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

my close friend is moving to North Carolina on the sixth so we are heading up to see him and his wife before they leave. Probably drink some beer and play some poker.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Rumpty, you are so wise not to want to go to Jumping Jacks. Just walking past the place gives me the fear.

We will be sitting in the house watching Jackie Bird, the tribute to Rikki Fulton, Only an Excuse and wondering who the hell finds about four-fifths of Chewing the Fat funny (honourable exceptions for Victor and Jack, Rab McGlinchey and the Partick-supporting pretendy-posh ones).

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

That's us decided.

Can't get a taxi booked for love nor money so Kev's driving. Di Maggios followed by drinks at home - and Jackie Bird.

Forecast is for pissing rain anyway. Always is.

Rumpty Pum pum pum, Wednesday, 29 December 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

My homegirl is leaving for gradschool in NC in a few days, but not before throwing a PIRATES VS NINJAS themed New Years party. After reviewing my ancient secrets of the shirt ninja, I now feel thoroughly prepared for eminent stealth funning.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

That's about the sum of it. I'm considering going to the Black Cat's event, even though I'm so sick of Peaches O'Dell and whatever she calls her orchestra these days. Attention D@nt3 F3rr@nd0: Yes, I know you were swing before swing was cool, but give it a rest already.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

now I might go to a party filled with drugs. maybe this will be fun.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The only escape is to standardise the night by taking drugs. I am DJing 10-11 which is a better warm up slot than usual, kind of looking forward to it now, day off the next day, can't complain I guess.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

expect drunken txts during your DJ set foolio

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I always liked new years eve as it was always more of a friends-oriented thing, which is a nice change from the family barrage of thanksgiving/xmas. A couple of years I got roped into MC'ing the city's new year stuff, but this year it's just the old college buddies and a lot of booze. Quite nice.
