If you were staying in someone else's house for a long time, how safe would their secrets be?

I mean, someone goes away, and you get to take advantage of the empty house for a while.

I ask because someone is living in my house for a few months while I'm away, and I've been worried about stuff I may have left lying around. Then I was talking to other people about this, and they said, "Don't worry, not everyone is as bored as you", meaning that they and most people would do very little snooping having better things to do.

Meanwhile I would, at the very least, explore every drawer in a house I was staying in for more than a month. At the very least. Not out of real interest, either.

Is it really that I have such a boring life?

You probably should have figured out a better place for the bodies than the hall closet.

and the replica of jenna jamesons snatch

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 16:02 (twenty years ago)

He put the bodies in a replica of Jenna Jameson's snatch?

When I rented an apartment in rome for two weeks, I was left explicit instructions not to open the deep freeze. (The owner had an interest in birds and I was told there were dead birds in there.) I did not.

I think it would take me like two days before before I could not longer resist the urge to horrify myself by finding the homeowner's crappy fetish porn.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 16:23 (twenty years ago)

oh I did find the owner's books of shots of tasteful nude young men, but no way was I opening the freezer.

He had Sharon Tate in his freezer???

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, you probably shouldn't let me stay at your house for an extended period of time, either.

As long as they don't say things like "Whatever you do don't look in the freezer" - I don't think I would do much exploring. But 2 or 3 months is a long time... hmmm.

I have also recently payed the price for snooping.

Meh, a friend of mine is a reptilolf... reptileo... guy who works with snakes and stuff, and his freezer's full of dead rats and a stuffed frog (not for snake consumption, just 'cause it looked cute or something I think). I didn't have any hesitation to put my beer in there to chill faster anyway.

Anyway, I'd say about twelve minutes.

Any info that I snoop up about people I know (whether said snooping is incidental or intentional) gets filed away in a part of my brain that I don't use. It's safer that way.

I'm a pretty snoopy guy... I'd wrestle with my morals for a while, but eventually break down and pry up the floorboards.

I have also recently payed the price for snooping.

Story please.

I found stuff.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 30 December 2004 02:09 (twenty years ago)

i wouldn't snoop, not because i'm not nosy (i am) but because i would know i'd feel too guilty afterwards. i hate feeling guilty. i'm still trying to escape the legacy of catholic school.

You also might stumble across graphic nude photos of your most hated ex-roommate.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 30 December 2004 02:46 (twenty years ago)

haha thermo... that seems like a further good reason never to snoop. yuk.

I stayed with a family in Muenster on a German Exchange in the Summer of 1988. They made the very wise decision of letting me sleep in the room with all the photo albums and family documentation... I was 12 years old, for goodness sakes.... Anyway that night I was snooping through all their stuff and discovered a small sleek blue photograph wallet stuck behind a shelf. Inside were many fuzzy 70s pictures of the couple having doing the deed, they weren't very pornographic, just overhead shots of them in the missionary position, but to a 12 year old they were like "Debbie does Dallas" times 10000000. Do you think I could look them in the eye at breakfast the next morning???

I wonder what Albrecht and Marike are doing these days....must write to them sometime....:)
